The Christmas Story
By Leanne Guenther
Once upon a time
A long, long time ago
Begins the story of a baby
That most of you should know
His daddy’s name was Joseph
And Mary was His mum
This babe was very special
He was God’s only Son.
Some angels came from heaven
And they began to sing
To the shepherds in the fields
below,
“Glad tidings we bring!”
A bright star lit the heavens
To light the magi’s way
To the baby in the manger
Who was born on Christmas day.
And all who gathered round Him
Rejoiced and praised His birth
For the babe, the king, named
Jesus
Is our Saviour here on Earth!

Christmas in the United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom Christmas decorations are put up in
shops and town centres from early November. Decorations in
people's homes traditionally include a Christmas tree, cards and
lights both inside and outside the home. Every year, the
Norwegians donate a giant Christmas tree for the British to be
raised in Trafalgar Square as a thank in return for help during the
Second World War.

Mrs Dioudi:
We would like to ask you some things about Christmas at school.
Sure. You can ask me anything.
Are we going to decorate our school this year and how?
Yes, we are. We will decorate both floors with Christmas trees and the Assembly
Hall as well. The classrooms will be decorated from students together with their
teachers.
Will there be a bazaar this year and who is organising it?
The bazaar is usually organised by the Parents’ Association but this year there
will not be one. We will offer food, clothes and toys to the people in need,
instead.
When will the Christmas celebration take place at school? Have you set a date?
Yes, it will take place on Monday the 22nd of December at 8.30 in the Assembly
Hall.
Will the students attend any theatrical plays this year?
Yes, we will go to see “Nefelokamomata” in Achillion.
Last year the students raised money for school through carol singing. Will it
happen this year, too?
Yes, it will. Last year we bought a video projector for our school with this money
but this time an amount of money will be given for charity purposes.
What do you like most about Christmas?
Well. I love the decoration, the family gatherings and the Christmas atmosphere
in general. Christmas reminds me of my childhood in my village where we used
to sing carols out in the snow and the school celebrations were unforgettable.
What is the spirit of Christmas to you?
I think Christmas is an opportunity to show our love and our warm feelings to
our beloved and to those who need them.
Thank you very much for your time. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you, too. It’s been a pleasure.
(M.I. & K.P.)

Reporter: Doctor, what do we mean when we talk about a healthy
diet?
Doctor: Following a healthy diet means receiving all the

consume a lot of fruit, vegetables and legumes, less pasta, fish
and meat and even less sugar.
Reporter: What can we do during Christmas holidays when
dinner invitations will be a lot and quite tempting?
Doctor: Well, we should eat and drink in moderation and maybe
skip a meal.

diabetes or cholesterol, what dangers can they face if they
consume too much food or alcohol?
Doctor: They might face serious health problems.
Reporter: How much sugar and alcohol can we have?

New Year’s traditions in England
In England, the celebration in London focuses on Big Ben, the bell. Parties are held across the country,
in pubs, clubs and private houses. At the stroke of midnight, people join hands in a ring and sing.
On New Year's Eve, about 250,000 people gather to view the fireworks around and above the London
Eye. The celebrations in London continue into January 1st, with the New Year's Day Parade, held
annually since 1987. The 2011 parade involved more than 10,000 musicians, cheerleaders and
performers.
