COURSE INFORMATION: Course Description: The nursing management process as it relates to the associate degree nursing student will be introduced and utilized within the nursing process. One credit theory, two credits clinical. Offered spring semester only. Prerequisites: Admission to the Nursing Program. 1. COURSE OUTCOMES: COURSE OUTCOMES MEASUREMENTS Provide safe, effective, evidence-based Change Presentation nursing care to promote positive outcomes for individuals, families, and groups. Demonstrate achievement of mentorship Successful completion of 90 hours clinical essential skills necessary for transition into preceptor rotation and Mentorship Essential professional practice. Competencies and Integrating Concepts. Demonstrate professional behaviors including I Made a Difference Paper, Discussion Questions communication, collaboration, prioritizing, and delegating in order to facilitate effective patient care outcomes. Demonstrate collaboration with preceptor Successful completion of 90 hours clinical within the healthcare setting to coordinate preceptor rotation and Mentorship Essential care of patients. Competencies and Integrating Concepts METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Lecture, discussion, demonstration, small group work, videos, assigned readings, written assignments, and clinical instruction will be utilized. THEORY EVALUATION: Evaluation of student progress will be the successful completion of the course outcomes this will be evaluated with classroom participation, in class change presentation; I made a difference paper, and three online discussion responses. Questions will be based on utilization of critical thinking skills and application of knowledge acquired in this, as well as previous courses. Students are expected to attend all classroom and clinical hours. Come to class prepared to share insight into scheduled topics. Points will be earned based on a positive respectful attitude, participation, and attendance. CLINICAL EVALUATION: Clinical evaluation is done mutually by student, preceptor, and instructor throughout the 90 hours of clinical. Actual clinical performance and written assignments include: Mentorship Essential Skills and Performance during Preceptor/Mentorship will be used to determine clinical competency and the ability to generalize and transfer theory outcomes to the clinical settings. Safe clinical practice and demonstration of personal and associate degree nursing practice attributes at the fourth semester level are mandatory for graduation of the program. REQUIRED VIDEOS: The following videos are located via WebCampus WebLink Critical Thinking, Coping, and Communication in Nursing: A Video Orientation for Survival in the Workplace GRADING POLICY AND CRITERIA: Course grade will be based on a percentage of the total possible points of theory and clinical assignments according to the following scale: 100 - 94.00 = A 76.00 =C (needed to pass) 93.99-90.00 = A- 75.99-70.00 = C- 89.99-87.00 = B+ 69.99-67.00 = D+ 86.99-84.00 = B 66.99-64.00 = D 83.99-80.00 = B- 63.99-60.00 = D- 79.99-77.00 = C+ Below 60.00 = F Course work must be completed with an average of 76% or better to pass the course. Late theory and clinical assignments will be worth 50% of the actual grade. If an assignment is more than one week late, a zero will be given for the assignment but submission of the assignment is still required.
