This I Believe
What do you believe? This is your chance to tell everyone what you think, what you believe. This isn’t a
persuasive speech. This is a statement. Follow the links, and read through a few of the examples below.

I Believe that Clothing is a Form of Self-Expression
1 - Select a topic. It doesn’t need to be anything deep and serious (again, look at the list above). Once
you have a topic, share it with me. A This I Believe essay on NPR was usually 330-425 words.
2 - Once you have your topic, start to think. Once you think, start to write. Use word count on Word to
make sure that you are between 330 and 425 words. These should be your words and your ideas.
3 - After you have your essay written, practice, practice, and practice some more. It is 2016 and people
communicate in other ways public than face-to-face. Many people use media to get their messages to a
wide (even world-wide) audience. We are going to record your speeches on Movie Maker on the
laptops.
4 – First, you need to create a title page with your name and
the essay title. Click the “title” button on the home page.
5 - After that, you can record your movie with the “web cam
video” button also on the home page.

6 – At the end, you need credits. They are on the home page. Add anything to credits that you want, but
be sure to include “Public Speaking” and the year and at least one other credit.
7 – Make sure that you save to a location that you can find it later!
8 – You need to save it in a video form that can be viewed on the
computer. Click on “save movie.”
9 – Watch your movie. Check the volume. Can we hear you? Look
at the framing. Can we see your entire face for the entire speech?
10 – Upload your video to Google classroom.
11 - You will watch each other’s speeches and comment on them.
You are responsible for commenting on at least four classmates’
speeches.
11 – If you have questions, let me know.
