INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP Goal: Vision 2020 “By 2020, WCPSS will annually graduate at least 95% of its students ready for productive citizenship as well as higher education or a career.” STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES AS INDICATED BY THE DATA GRADUATION RATE …is at its highest point overall since 2005—84.3% …has decreased slightly for black students, economically disadvantaged students and students with disabilities. …has increased for white and Asian students. …is correlated to Reading EOG scores in grades 3 and 8. RETENTION RATES Of students that are retained in 9th grade… 60% failed English. 50% failed science AND social studies. Retention rates decrease as students matriculate to the upper grades of high school. CONNECTION TO READING Graduation rates are correlated to Reading EOG scores in grades 3 and 8. Greater than 35% of incoming freshmen read below grade level. Despite this, promotion/retention rates varies widely across schools.
