Macular degeneration
a.
“Wet” form- A chronic eye disease that causes vision loss in the center field of vision
Causes - Vision loss caused by abnormal blood vessel growth and fluid buildup
in the back of the eye

“Dry” form- another kind of chronic eye disease that causes vision in the center field of
vision due to deterioration of the macula.
Cataracts - clouding of the lens of your eye
Symptoms - blurred or dim vision; difficulty with vision at night; light sensitivity; seeing
"halos" around lights
3.
Presbyopia - common vision disorder due to aging
Symptoms - hard time reading small print; have to hold reading material farther than arm’s
distance away; problems seeing close objects
4.
Astigmatism - light does not disperse evenly on the cornea.
Symptoms - blurred or distorted vision
5.
Glaucoma - group of diseases that damage the optic nerve
Symptoms - gradual loss of peripheral vision, usually both eyes; tunnel vision in advanced stages
Cause - fluid flows too slowly, and builds up pressure, damaging the optic nerve
6.
Myopia - nearsightedness
Symptoms - blurry vision when looking at distant objects
Cause - eyes focus images in front of retina because the eyeball is too long

Hyperopia - farsightedness
Symptoms - blurry vision of closer objects
Cause – eyes focus on images behind the retina because the eyeball is too short
8.
Strabismus - the cross-eye disease where the person cannot align both eyes simultaneously
Symptoms - crossed eyes; eyes do not move together
Cause - brain failed to develop the ability to coordinate both eyes at the same time

Lazy eye - one eye wanders inward or outward
Symptoms - eyes don’t work together

Diabetic retinopathy - group of eye problems in people with diabetes
Symptoms - Spots or dark strings floating in your vision (floaters); blurring or loss of vision
Cause - fragile abnormal blood vessels grow and leak blood into eye center, blurring vision.

Pink eye - conjunctivitis, an inflammation of the conjunctiva
Symptoms – redness; gritty feeling; discharge from eyes
13.
Stye - red painful lump on the edge of an eyelid
Symptoms - eyelid pain, swelling, and crusting
Hearing Disorders
1.
Tinnitus - noise or ringing in the ears
Symptoms – ringing, buzzing, roaring, clicking, hissing
2.
Conductive hearing loss - hearing loss that is related to problems with the ear canal or ear drum
Causes - fluid in the middle ear; ear infection; perforated eardrum; impacted earwax
3.
Sensorineural hearing loss - hearing loss related to damage of inner ear
Causes - age-related hearing loss; infections; injury to inner ear; loud noises or sounds
Disrupted Equilibrium
1.
Nystagmus - uncontrollable eye movements
2.
Vertigo - sense of rocking or rotating even when perfectly still
