Admission Guidelines:
•A- or better in Grade 8-Level 1
•Teacher recommendation based on student's
background in English grammar, literature analysis and
composition

•Advanced ability to analyze literature, informational texts,
and multimedia
•Consistent and firm understanding of correct grammar usage
and vocabulary in context
•Consistent and skillful communication of thoughts in
composition and oral language

• This introductory course offers an opportunity for students to
design and create media productions. Through analysis;
planning; defining central ideas; composing text, images, and
sound; and digital editing and revision, students will understand
that media productions—like literary works—are the result of
careful consideration of audience, message, and form.
• The overall experience will provide students with valuable skills
in creative thinking, composition, oral communication, media
literacy, and collaboration.
• The student’s grade will be based on multiple production
projects, effort, and class participation.

World Languages
• Graduation requirement: all students must
successfully complete at least two years of a world
language.
• Three languages offered: Latin, Spanish, and French
• Levels offered: Honors & College Prep
• ECP French: 2 year program; alternative to French 1
& 2, Latin 1 & 2, or Spanish 1 & 2; It is a very basic
French course which focuses on speaking and
listening; less emphasis on reading and writing.
Honors
• HONORS Students are highly motivated to
learn and think in another language. They are
eager to participate in the four major areas of
learning in world language classes: listening,
speaking, reading, and writing. They are able
learners who connect previous learning with
new experiences. They can understand,
communicate, read, and write effectively in
the target language and in English. Honors
students appreciate a rigorous course and are
willing to work harder to master new skills.
College Prep
• COLLEGE PREPARATORY Students possess the
ability and the interest to learn a world
language. They are able to apply concepts
taught and to build upon prior knowledge.
They are attentive, cooperative, and diligent.
College preparatory students can speak with
moderate skill in the target language. These
students benefit greatly from the opportunity

KPHS Peer Tutoring Center
The Peer Tutoring Center is available
throughout the school day and afterschool for
students to access free tutoring support from
highly successful KPHS upperclassmen. These
students are taking the Peer Tutoring Internship
class offered at KPHS.
Tutoring in all core subject areas and many
electives is available at the Peer Tutoring
Center.
