DECEPTION

Lesson Text: Acts 9:1-19
DEFINING DECEPTION
Defining Deception: The act of misleading
someone through false appearance or false
statement. A delusion that hides or
misrepresents the truth. In spiritual terms, a
deception is a focus on something other
than the truth.
SATAN: KING OF LIES
• Genesis 3:1-2 Now the serpent was more
cunning than any beast of the field which
the LORD God had made. And he said to
the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You
shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

the serpent said to the woman,
“You will not surely die.”
IN THE NAME OF GOD
• Acts 9:1-2 Then Saul, still breathing
threats and murder against the disciples
of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and
asked letters from him to the synagogues
of Damascus, so that if he found any who
were of the Way, whether men or women,
he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
Aztecs: In the 1300s they brought human
sacrifice to a golden era. About 20,000
people were killed yearly to appease gods,
especially the sun god, who needed daily
“nourishment” of blood. Hearts of sacrifice
victims were cut out, and some bodies were
eaten ceremoniously. Other victims were
drowned, beheaded, burned or dropped
from heights.

• John 8:31-32 “If you abide in My word,
you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you
shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free.”

you free, you shall be free indeed.”

LIGHT FIGHTS DECEPTION
• John 8:32 Then Jesus spoke to them
again, saying, “I am the light of the world.
He who follows Me shall not walk in
darkness, but have the light of life.”
• John 1:1-5 “In Him was life and that life
was the light of men.”
• Light reveals truth and
fights deception.
LIGHT FIGHTS DECEPTION
• Matt. 5:14-15 “You are the light of the
world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be
hidden.15 Nor do they light a lamp and put
it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and
it gives light to all who are in the house.
• Isaiah 49:6 I will also give You as a light to
the Gentiles, That You should be My
salvation to the ends of the earth
JESUS REVEALS TRUTH
• Acts 9:3 As he journeyed he came near
Damascus, and suddenly a light shone
around him from heaven.
ACCEPTING TRUTH
1. Surrender: Acts 9:9 “And he was three
days without sight.”

DECEPTION VS TRUTH
