UMBRELLA DAY Thank you for sending in umbrellas. I hope your child shared with you what we did. Here’s a list of the activities to guide your conversation with your child. Colored an umbrella picture and found the letters Uu’s. Listened to a book “Umbrella Parade”. Using the umbrellas in the story, made subtraction sentences. Measured umbrellas with unifix cubes. Found out which umbrella was the longest and the shortest. Before placing all the umbrellas in a row in the hallway, students estimated how far they thought the umbrellas would go. Counted how many umbrellas. Talked about when and where we use umbrellas. I sat on a chair and the students opened their umbrellas so we were all under the umbrellas. Copied the sentence from the board: “We are under the umbrellas that are up.” Underlined the U’s. Learned the chorus to the song “Singing in the Rain”. Worked on sequencing with some fun motions. Motions: thumbs up, elbows back, feet together, head up, tongue out. After each time we sang the chorus, we would add a motion. We had a great time with our umbrellas and covered a lot of academics.
