Wizarding World Shopping Trip
Standard- ELACC6W7: Conduct short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several sources and refocusing the inquiry when appropriate.
Imagine that you are a student at Hogwarts. In order to fit in with your peers and conduct business
transactions, you must be familiar with the currency system in the Wizarding World.
Step 1: Use the following websites to research the money used in the Wizarding World:

Step 2: You decide to take a trip to Diagon Alley to buy some new supplies. Listed on page 2, you will
find different items available for sale along with their prices in galleons, sickles, or knuts.
Remember: 1 Galleon is equal to 17 Sickles, which is equal to 493 Knuts.
Step 3: You have 100 Galleons to spend total. You may choose to spend them on any of the items in the
list, as long as you stay under budget.
 List all items you buy and why you are buying them on the page titled “shopping list”, along with
the quantity and wizarding world price.
 Calculate your total purchase as if you are writing a receipt.
 Subtract your purchase total from the original 100 Galleons you had to find your remaining
balance.
o You will be graded on correct math.
 After you have calculated your purchases in Wizarding World currency, use the currency
converter to show how much you would have spent in Muggle Money in both the United
Kingdom (pounds) and United States (dollars).
