BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Ground breaking research by RMIT Professor Helen McGrath has revealed that lavishing
children with praise and constantly pumping up self esteem is breeding a generation of
bullies. McGrath targets both parents and schools as the root of the problem, saying
that while they are trying to keep children’s sense of self-worth high, they may not
have realised that the outcome is that kids are also increasing in their sense of
narcissism.
