Sir William Osler Physician in Chief, Johns Hopkins Hospital (1889-1905) “He who studies medicine without books sails an uncharted sea, but he who studies medicine without patients does not go to sea at all.” 3 What People Say – the Problem! There is a lot of information out there, but it is impossible to find. I don’t have time to go to training. I just need to get what I need to know without leaving my desk. My sense was that training was something that was being “done to me” – I did not feel involved in the process. The training I received taught me some terms, but I still don’t know how to do my job! I was sent e-mails saying I had to be in two classes at the same time! The training that went out was badly written and full of grammatical and spelling errors. I passed all the tests, but it didn’t mean a thing. I still don’t know how to use the system. 4 The instructor told me how to fill in some fields, but I didn’t know why or what it was all about. What People Say – the Problem! The training told me how to work fill out forms, but I didn’t get any information about policies and procedures. I received training from someone who did not seem to have a clue what our business is. I was looking for practical experience – all I got was a bunch of PowerPoint slides. The training and the application did not match! I work at the hospital, and the training I got was university-oriented. I work at the university, and the training I got was hospital-oriented. The training was too generic – it did not apply to my department. The training was boring! 5 Components of Our Plan 6 Knowledge Network https://collaborate.johnshopkins.edu/sites/SAP/knownet/Pages/default.aspx myLearning @ johnshopkins https://lms.learnshare.com/authenticate/shib/default.asp JHU SAP Program Sequence and Curriculum http://training.jhu.edu/html/Financial/Status204.pdf Desktop Support Technology –Bomgar- end user url – http://streaming.jhu.edu Synchronous Learning Technology – Adobe Connect - FastFacts http://hopkinsfastfacts.org/ Rapid Development Tool example - LSCD http://training.jhu.edu/html/Test/NEWHR Learning Solutions Home Page – http://training.jhu.edu Learning Solutions e-mail learning@jhu.edu Q&A • We’re going to open the phone lines now! • There will be a slight pause, and then a recorded voice will provide instructions on how to ask questions over this conference call line. • We’ll be answering questions in the order that we receive them. • We’ll also be answering the questions that were emailed to us during the presentation. • If there’s a question that we can’t answer, we’ll do some research after this session, and then email the answer to all participants.
