• 516 route miles of dark fiber
• 4 new PoPs (plus 32 AofA) and 8 new line amplifier sites
New Equipment
• Cisco routers (7609/Sup720 upstate, 12410 in NYC)
• Cisco DWDM (15454 with ROADM)
• Gigabit Ethernet as the primary transport
New Capabilities
• Backbone bandwidth increase (OC-12 to multiple GigE)
• Partial mesh to reduce the impact of a single failure
• Optical transport between any of the PoPs, 32 lambdas at up to 10 Gbps

New Connection Options
R&E IP connections:
Lambda connections:
•
•
•
•
• Switch or Router through a
transponder
• Switch or Router with
DWDM pluggable optics

through a transponder
• Metro WDM with pluggable
optics (someday!)
• SAN switch through a
transponder
