Proverbs 24:30-31
I passed by the field of the sluggard
And by the vineyard of the man lacking
sense,
31 And behold, it was completely
overgrown with thistles;
Its surface was covered with nettles,
And its stone wall was broken down.
Proverbs 24:32-34
When I saw, I reflected upon it;
I looked, and received instruction.
33 “A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to rest,”
34 Then your poverty will come as a
robber
And your want like an armed man.

Ecclesiastes 12:1-7
and seek to pick out
and explain the
imagery that is used
throughout this
passage.
Ecclesiastes 12:1-2
Remember also your Creator in the
days of your youth, before the evil days
come and the years draw near when you
will say, “I have no delight in them”; 2
before the sun and the light, the moon
and the stars are darkened, and clouds
return after the rain;
Ecclesiastes 12:3-4
…in the day that the watchmen of the
house tremble, and mighty men stoop,
the grinding ones stand idle because
they are few, and those who look
through windows grow dim; 4 and the
doors on the street are shut as the
sound of the grinding mill is low, and one
will arise at the sound of the bird, and all
the daughters of song will sing softly.
Ecclesiastes 12:5
Furthermore, men are afraid of a
high place and of terrors on the road; the
almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper
drags himself along, and the caperberry
is ineffective. For man goes to his
eternal home while mourners go about in
the street.
Ecclesiastes 12:6-7
Remember Him before the silver
cord is broken and the golden bowl is
crushed, the pitcher by the well is
shattered and the wheel at the cistern is
crushed; 7 then the dust will return to the
earth as it was, and the spirit will return
to God who gave it.
Remember the Lord because…
• You aren’t getting any Younger.
• God has designed you to be Empty
without Him.
• Now is the Time to Prepare for Eternity.

Song of Songs 1:7
Tell me, O you whom my soul loves,
Where do you pasture your flock,
Where do you make it lie down at

For why should I be like one who
veils herself
Beside the flocks of your
companions?
The Story behind the Song

• The book is never quoted in the New
Testament
• Jews would not permit their young
people to read this book
“I advise and counsel
everyone who is not yet
rid of the vexations of
the flesh and blood and
has not ceased to feel
the passion of his bodily
nature, to refrain
completely from reading
this little book and the
things that will be said
about it.”
While the king was
at his table,
My perfume gave
forth its fragrance.
(Song 1:12).
Mary then took a
pound of very costly
perfume of pure
nard, and anointed
the feet of Jesus and
wiped His feet with
her hair; and the
house was filled with
the fragrance of the
perfume (John 12:3)
You are a garden
spring,
A well of fresh water,
And streams flowing
from Lebanon (Song
4:15).
He who believes in
Me, as the Scripture
said, “From his
innermost being will
flow rivers of living
water” (John 7:38)
I was asleep but my
heart was awake.
A voice!
My beloved was
knocking: ‘
“Open to me, my
sister, my darling,
My dove, my perfect
one! (Song 5:2).
Behold, I stand at
the door and knock;
if anyone hears My
voice and opens the
door, I will come in
to him and will dine
with him, and he
with Me (Revelation
3:20).

Put me like a seal over your heart,
Like a seal on your arm.
For love is as strong as death,
Jealousy is as severe as Sheol;
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
The very flame of the LORD.
Song of Songs 8:7
Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor will rivers overflow it;
If a man were to give all the riches of
his house for love,
It would be utterly despised.
