Sara Bareilles Biography Sara Beth Bareilles was born on December 7, 1979 to a funeral home worker and an insurance adjuster in the small town of Eureka, California. Growing up Sara was the youngest of three sisters and spent much time during her childhood at the piano teaching herself how to play. During her school years Sara was a member of her High Schools choir and was an active participant in community theater (AceShowbiz.com). After high school Sara was accepted into and attended UCLA and apparently “spent the majority of… her time writing poetry and songs.” (Lymangrover). Sara’s passion for music didn’t stop there, she soon joined a coed A Cappella group called “Awaken”. She also competed in the schools “Spring sing” competition and won (AceShowbiz.com). After graduating college she “performed at local bars and clubs in an attempt to build a bigger fan base for a bigger show” (AceShowbiz.com). Sara eventually came to record her first album “Careful Confessions” which received little attention. After signing with Epic Records in 2005 Sara was guided by Eric Rosse, a producer, whom helped her make her second album, “Little Voice”. In this album Sara “covered her past relationships, insecurities, and inner battles with trying to trust her instincts” (Lymangrover). “Little Voice” was the album that launched Sara’s career and with her hit song “Love Song” she was unstoppable, selling millions of copies. With Sara’s rise to fame she began to be compared to Norah Jones and Fiona Apple; her voice being described as “naturally skilled…that ranged from powerful and soulful to sweet and gentle” (Lymangrover). After two years of touring Sara decided it was time to start on her third album “Kaleidoscope Heart” which “was like pulling teeth” (Bareilles). Since then many of Sara’s songs have received recognition and Sara has just recently released her new album called “Once Upon a Time”. Interview With my mom Q: How long has Vanna been singing? A: Oh, gosh. For as long as I can remember. Probably since she could talk. Q: How do you think Vanna’s passion for singing began? A: Well, when I was pregnant with Vanna I used to sing and listen to music all the time. I think that could have had some impact on her. Q: What is your opinion on Vanna planning on pursuing a singing career? A: I think it is fantastic, I mean, if she can do what she loves for a living then I will support her in any way I can. Q: Do you think it is important to support your child in something they are passionate about? A: Absolutely, because it’s important for a child to know that their parents will be there no matter what and back them up. Reflection Doing this project really helped me learn about the proper ways to cite my sources and avoid plagiarism and helped me realize the importance of using my own words. It also helped me look deeper into myself and examine the things that make me who I am. I feel better after doing this project and getting to know myself better because I have a sense of uniqueness and identity that I never saw before. Works Cited Bareilles, Sara Beth. "Sara's Bio."
