Results of the ACHE Competency Assessment Tool
Communication and Relationship Management Development Plan

After reviewing my results in the communication and relationship management aspect of
this tool it stood out to me that my strengths were facilitation and negotiation. I scored
above competent on all aspects of this section. I can continue to improve by advancing
my knowledge and expertise in the field to make myself more comfortable with dealing
with team building and labor relation strategies. It seemed as if in the communication
skills that communicating through data analysis and business reports were my
weaknesses. I plan to continue to expose myself to this type of business communication
to allow for improved skills and continued experience in these areas. My strengths in
communication were public relations. I can always continue to improve my relationship
with the public to help make their health care a better experience. Relationship
management seemed to be an overall strength for me with minor competency in
relationships with supply management. With my experience in the field, I have not had
the opportunity to reach out and communicate with supply management. I will continue
to make myself more available for these opportunities to improve my competency level
in this area of relationship management.
Leadership Development Plan

My strengths with leadership skills and behavior stand out to be associated with applying
the leadership theory and styles. I scored above competent on all aspects of leadership
skills and behavior besides the participating in healthcare policy initiatives. I believe that
this is my weakness because I still have not taking the policy class to help better
understand correct policy and enforcing it. I plan to continue to improve my development
of leadership skills and behavior by increasing my experience in this role and applying
my advanced knowledge to my leadership. The more comfortable I am in my position the
better I will be able to develop this weakness. Organizational Climate and Culture was a
category I was very strong in across the board. I find myself being very understanding
and knowledgeable about other cultures and diversity. I didn’t rate myself expert because
I think there is still area to grow in learning more about diversity and culture to help
develop my success with the relationships between these different people.
Communication Vision I was ranked above competent on everything. I need to continue
to learn more about my organization to help encourage a high level of commitment to the
purpose and values of my organization. The more I learn about the organization the more
passionate I will be about the lifetime commitment of the organization. Managing
Change I scored as an expert on all categories. Being fresh in school, I am able to help
implement updated procedures to help change the organization. I plan to continue
bringing new ideas to the organization to help better the facility and overcome obstacles
that the organization is faced with.
Professionalism Development Plan

My results for this portion of the tool were exceptionally high. For personal and
Professional Accountability and Professional Development and Lifelong Learning. I
scored expert across the board. To continue this rating, I can continue to respect my

patients and always own up for my mistakes. I will continue not to point fingers at people
but try to resolve problems in a group manner. I will also continue to make sure the
organization is based on moral ethics to ensure that all staff and employees are doing
what is ethically right. It will be important to continue networking with colleagues and
attending appropriate conferences to learn more and connect with new people for the
benefit of the organization. Contributions to the Community and Profession were high
but not quite expert. To continue developing this area, it will be very important to make
our organization available to participate in outside research to better our profession.
Knowledge of the Healthcare Environment

In this area I felt comfortable with the healthcare environment but there are areas of
improvement. With the healthcare systems and organizations I can increase my
knowledge and skill level with evidence-based management practice and healthcare
economics. I can continue individual research and attend conferences based around these
two areas to better my development in the knowledge of healthcare environment. My
strengths in this area are healthcare and medical terminology but I still will need to
continue refreshing my knowledge and studying new terms to make the organization
successful. Healthcare Personnel was an area I felt expert on. My strengths in the
organization are to know the roles of employees and ancillary services within the
organization. To continue this development, it will be important to take time out of my
day to spend with the healthcare personnel to learn new duties and be a support system to
their job while understanding what is needed to make the organization successful. The
patient’s perspective and the community and the environment are all areas I found myself
an expert on. My strengths are to identify the patients’ needs to help better serve them. It
will be important to continue development by staying focused on the patient’s and what
the organizations functions continue to be.
Business Skills and Knowledge

My strengths in this category lye in the General Management area. I believe this is
because of my recent schooling I am able to apply the principles learned to successfully
use systems thinking, justify a new business model and understand basic business
contracts. I can continue advancing development in this area by being open to the more
recent research and ideas to benefit the general management aspect of the organization.
Financial Management is an area that I had myself at competent or below. I feel like this
area will need continuous improvement because it is the most important aspect of running
the organization. By attending additional continued education courses and being open to
professional advice, my organization will be able to continue to develop the financial
aspect of the organization. Human Resource Management I scored at competent or above.
My strengths in this area are found in employee motivational techniques and retention
techniques. An area of improvement includes organizational policies and procedures
because of my lack of experience. This area will be able to be development as I become
more of an expert on the organization and understand all aspect of policy development.
Organizational Dynamics and Governance as well as Strategic Planning and Marketing
are areas I feel above competent in. Managing projects, planning disaster events, and
strategic decision making area all areas of my strengths. Areas that I think I can improve

on are the governance theory and structure. Of course all areas will need to be continually
assessed to stay up on the development plan but the areas of governance structure will
need to be a priority while getting started to help the development. Information
Management, Risk Management, and Quality Improvement are all areas that I feel like an
expert on now but that can change very quickly. Due to the rapid change in these three
areas, it will be essential to stay up on updated research to apply new ideas and new
systems to the organization to continue advancements and developing and updated
organization.
