CIVIL WAR RESEARCH PROJECT
Directions
1.
Choose a topic from Ms. Homa’s list.
2.
Research your topic using print and online sources. Take notes!
3.
Gather research for 3 claims, with supporting data and warrants for each. Use at least 3 sources, one must be a print source.
4.
Develop a thesis.
5.
Write 2 paragraphs of a research paper on your topic, an introductory paragraph and a paragraph for your first claim. Use Googledocs. Share it with Ms. Homa and Mr.
Harper. Name it with your SS period, your last name, your topic.
6.
Complete Noodlebib entries for your sources. Upload them into Googledocs.
7.
Produce a Keynote presentation on all topic that includes all 3 of your claims. It should contain pictures, maps, drawings … visuals that support your claims. You can do a voiceover or narrate as you present. It should be 2 to 5 minutes in length.
8.
In addition to class time, you will likely have to work on this project as homework.
Timeline
May 2 – Choose topic
May 2, 3, 4 – Research topic, create Noodlebib entries (library – May 3- pds. 4, 5, 6, 7;
May 4-pd. 1)
May 7 – Identify thesis and 3 claims, organize data, compose warrants. Finish gathering research and creating Noodlebib entries; begin writing process
May 8 – Begin writing process, begin Keynote. (Writing in English and Social Studies.)
May 9 – Continue writing process.
May 10 – Finish writing process. Begin Keynote presentation; should include all 3 claims, with data and warrants.
May 11 – Finish Keynote. Proofread paper. Print paper and Noodlebib entries.
May 14 – Hand in paper and Noodlebib. Begin presenting Keynote.
May 15 – Finish presenting Keynote.
Grade
Paper-Content – 20 points (accurate, complete, relevant historical information)
Paper-Conventions – 5 points (grammar, spelling, punctuation)
Noodlebib – 5 points (complete and accurate references, notes)
Keynote – 10 points (3 claims with data and warrants, accurate, complete, relevant
historical information, thoughtful and attractive presentation.)
