LGBT EVENTS & COURSES Common Ground With One Voice Eat Your Words 3 - 13 February 2014 Cardew Space 7 February 2014, 19:00 - 21:15 Emma Cons Hall 29 January, 5 & 12 February 10:30 - 13:30 Course code: PEW003A An interactive display exploring differences and commonalities. An evening of performances from Morley staff, students and groups within the community. Local and Historical Perspectives: LGBT Information Fair 6 February 2014, 11:00 - 15:00 Emma Cons Hall An information fair providing practical information and advice with stalls and speakers. Talks include: 11:00 - 12:00 How we can Educate Out Prejudice: Visibilising and Usualising Sue Sanders, founder of LGBT History Month, with introduction by Maggi Hambling. 13:00 - 13:45 Reporting Hate Crime in Southwark LGBT Liaison Officers, London Metropolitan Police The evening will include the Diversity Choir as special guests and a screening of Codebreaker, a short film about a choral commission commemorating British codebreaker Alan Turing, who was recently posthumously pardoned for his 1952 conviction for homosexuality. This event will be the official launch event for national LGBT History Month Celebrations. A creative course exploring perceptions, language and labels used to describe LGBT people and lives. The culmination of the course will be an interactive tea party, where you can share your findings through the medium of cupcakes. 14 February 2014, 11:15 - 11:45 Room C30 A student from Morley’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) department shares their experience of working for Labrys, a campaigning organisation of LGBT rights in Kyrgyzstan. Rainbow Through the Lens Queering the Classic: Pomp and Portraiture 12 February 2014, 18:00 - 20:00 Venue TBC* 12 February 2014, 12:00 - 13:00 Venue TBC* Open Barbers, a hairdressing service for all genders and sexualities, will be offering participants chance to explore gender and identity through hairstyling and vintage clothing provided by Kookie of London. Sadie Lee, award-winning painter, discusses LGBT themed work, her own practice, and her role as facilitatator of the Queer Perspective talks at the National Portrait Gallery. International Perspectives: Russian LGBT Migrants in Berlin: Between the Ethno-national and the Queer Diasporas Queering the Picture International Perspectives: Being LGBT in Kyrgyzstan 14:00 - 14:45 Metro @30 The Metro Centre 14 February 2014, 10:15 - 11:00 C30 14:45 - 15:00 Families Together London: Supporting Your LGBT Child Dr Richard Mole, Senior Lecturer in Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London, leads a discussion on Russian LGBT migrants in London and Berlin. 25 February - 7 March 2014 Cardew Space A photographic exhibition by members of Four in Ten, South London and Maudsley NHS (SLaM) LGBT Peer Support Group. EDUCATE OUT PREJUDICE Educate Out Prejudice is an innovative new project which aims to offer practical solutions to support the inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) themes into adult learning. It is funded by the Skills Funding Agency’s Equality and Diversity Innovation Fund (EDIF). As part of the project the College is inviting all members of the Morley community to join its staff and student focus groups to: • • • explore LGBT lives and issues at Morley College promote positive attitudes towards LGBT lives support the development of the collection of LGBT data.
