China was the most isolated civilization
that was studied so far. To the west and
southwest, high mountain ranges and
brutal deserts blocked easy movement.
The Chinese heartland lay along the east
coast and the valleys of the Huang He and
the Yangzi. In ancient times and today, the
rivers were used for irrigation and
transportation.

Chinese writing was a system of
pictographs and ideographs. Some
of the oldest examples were oracle
bones. Written Chinese took shape
almost 4, 000 years ago. The
Chinese language includes over tens
of thousands of characters
representing a word or idea. Over
the recent years, Chinese has been
simplified, but is still the hardest
language to learn. Students must
learn over 10,000 characters
compared to English or Arabic,
which only contains 2 dozen
symbols representing sounds.

Cities
The two main cities in this civilization
was Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro. The
most striking feature of these two
cities is that they were carefully
planned. These cities were laid out in a
grid pattern. The houses were built of
uniform oven fired clay bricks. The
houses had pluming systems, with
baths, drains, and water chutes. These
led into sewers beneath the streets.

One greatly honored profession was that of
a Spartan soldier. Spartan warriors were
taught and trained from the age of seven, if
you made it past birth inspection. If you
didn’t make it past birth inspection, you
were thrown over a cliff and left to die. By
the time the boy becomes twenty he is sent
to the barracks to be a full time soldier.
Life as a Spartan was that of physical,
mental and spiritual toughness. Married
life also depended on how fast or strong
you were. If you were the strongest
women, you married the strongest man. If
you were the fastest women, you married
the fastest man.

Technology
One great technology, that was created
by the Greeks, that we all know and
love, is the shower. Compared to the
bathing system of Greece, the showers
of China and Mesopotamia were
rudimentary. Usually after exerting
themselves in the stadium, Greek
athletes would freshen up after words.
The remains of the whole complex
system were found in the excavated
gymnasium of Pergamum. The water
came from the shower head and would
fall onto the bather, then slowly drain
down into another bath, until going
down the drain, inadvertently giving
them a foot bath as well.

In our Utopia, there are several languages
spoken in the area. There English, Spanish,
Japanese, Chinese, Greek, Arabic and
some other languages. Because of the
many languages there are many archives
for service information. Each archive
holds any kind of book or new article,
written in that language. English, Spanish
and Greek are quite easy to store because
of their alphabet. Coincidently this makes
it hard for Japanese, Chinese and Arabic
harder because they have characters
instead of individual letters. However the
cultural diffusion is a wonderful way for
new understanding of the people around
