Agenda:
1. Computer lab:
First half of class to
complete the first
draft of the
research paper.
Students should
print their outline,
and 5-8 pages of
their research
paper. I will revise
these and return
them by the end of
the week.
2. Edgar Allen Poe:
Introduce with the
A&E Biography
and study guide.
Then, assign
reading of the
allegory “The
Masque of the Red
Death.” Students
should complete
the allegory chart
that I provide when
finished reading.
We will discuss
whole class when
everyone is
finished.
3. If time allows, read
“The Raven.”
Examine poetic
techniques such as
internal/external
rhyme,
approximate
rhyme, assonance,
alliteration,
consonance, meter,
and finally apply
the meaning of the
poem to Poe’s own
life as Virginia lay
dying in the next
room.
4. For homework,
assign reading of
another Poe story.
Students may find
one online to read
or check one out
from the library.
With the story, they
should complete
the questions on
Gothic literature
that I provide.

Agenda:
1. Computer lab:
First half: Students
who read the same
story will work
together to design
an animoto to
capture the essence
of their story. We

Present imagiwords
as preparation for
the quiz on Friday.
Remind students to
create flashcards

the quiz.
3. Show the
powerpoint of
Walden and Henry
David Thoreau. If
weather allows,
take students out
for a walk around
the balconies.
Have them observe
all aspects of the
outside world:
sights, sounds,
texture, tastes, etc.
Then they will
come in and reflect
on their experience
in a journal entry.
4. Next, we will read
portions of Walden
in class together.
Allow students to
appreciate
important quotes
and write these
down in their quote
analysis form that I
provide.
