FACT SHEET History Originally opened in 1953, Round Hill Hotel and Villas was conceived by well connected Jamaican-born entrepreneur, John Pringle, whose mother was a social fixture in Montego Bay. Pringle invited prominent American and European socialites, literati and artists to build private cottages on the property and to invest in the hotel. The property soon became the private haunt of style icons and socialites including Sir Noel Coward, Adele Astaire, Bill and Babe Paley, Lord and Lady Ednam and Oscar Hammerstein. Today, Round Hill retains that old-school glamour and operates on the same basis – each of the cottages is owned by individual "shareholders" chiefly from the US and Europe. When the owners are not in residence the cottages are available for rent either as villa suites or as full cottages. Location Round Hill is located just west of Montego Bay in Jamaica, West Indies. The resort is a 20-minute drive from Sangster International Airport (MBJ). Round Hill comprises 27 individually owned villas and the 36-room Pineapple House surrounded by 110 acres of lush tropical gardens. Accommodation Recently renovated and designed by Ralph Lauren, The Pineapple House features 36 Oceanfront guestrooms overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the double infinity edge pool. The upstairs rooms have spacious vaulted ceilings and large louvered windows which fold back to take full advantage of breathtaking views. The downstairs rooms have spacious patios or balconies. The villas feature two through six bedroom suites, living rooms, verandas and magnificent views. Twenty-one of the villas have private pools. Each villa bedroom is ensuite with its own bathroom and terrace. Guests may book a private, complete villa with private pool and dedicated staff. Or, individual villa suites can be booked, ranging from Classic villa suites to expansive Grand Pineapple suites, most of which provide access to uniquely designed and lushly landscaped villa pools. The Pineapple House Oceanfront guestrooms evoke a feeling of tropical beach living and feature white stone floors, romantic four poster mahogany bamboo beds and sumptuous upholstered furniture with splashes of pink and blue. The bathrooms are spacious with double sinks, deep soaking tubs, and separate rain shower. Design Each of the 27 villas is beautifully decorated by individual owners, reflecting a history of good taste and understated style. Influenced by Ralph Lauren’s philosophy of letting nature be the focus; the interiors are classy and elegant yet comfortable, the villas exude a laid-back, plantation-style elegance and feature wicker, mahogany or bamboo furniture, oversized sofas with slip covers and wooden or tiled floors. Bedrooms and living rooms convey a very light, Caribbean feel with the trade winds passing through. All of the villas are nestled in the hillside, facing west, and enjoy fabulous sunsets and coastal views. Amenities Waterworks bathroom fixtures are featured in all Pineapple House Oceanfront guestrooms. All guestrooms and suites offer Elemis bath amenities and iPod docking stations.
