Students will have TWO DAYS to complete this multi-faceted project, which will be worth a TEST GRADE. TO BE PRESENTED ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st PROJECT COMPONENTS EXPLAINED A. Travel Brochure – As the thirteen colonies grew over the years, cities began to develop across the east coast. You are required to create a travel brochure that highlights one of the cities in your region. It should attract people living in Europe to come and live in that city. Describe the specific attractions of that city, citing facts about that city during the colonial period. B. LEGO Settlement – The three regions of the thirteen colonies were very different from one another, and therefore their settlements looked very different. Please create an accurate, creative and detailed settlement that appropriately represents your region of the colony. A ONE PAGE description is required to explain what you created and why you included certain details. *Note – If you have access to Minecraft, it is acceptable to build a Minecraft settlement instead of a Lego settlement. C. Journal Narrative – All different kinds of people lived in the early settlements of the colonies. In form of a TWO-PAGE journal entry, please walk through a “day in the life” of person that belongs to a demographic in your region. It could be a slave, a Puritan, a Native-American, a farmer, a Quaker, or a political radical. Include facts and strong content that displays that you know what the daily life of the person of your choice would look like. D. Colonial Map – As more and more settlers came to the New World, thirteen colonies would be firmly planted across the east coast. It is very important that you not only know the colonies that make up your region, but neighboring regions as well. You are required to fill in a map of the thirteen colonies (names of colonies, names of major cities, identify geographic landmarks, other territories, etc.) and color the map in an artistic and neat manner. E. Merchant’s Resource Description – In the colonial era, merchants needed to have a keen understanding of each region’s resource. If they did not, they would soon be out of business. You are required to fill in the “Merchant’s Log” that is attached. It requires you to identify the resources that were natural to that region, F. Poster of Famous Person – Personal paintings and engravings were very expensive to have done in the colonial era. Only those with enough personal wealth or those who achieved great fame would have their portrait taken. Take a moment to create a poster of ONE famous person from your region and attach a ONE-PAGE description/biography of the individual (life, achievements, death, legacy, etc). G. *REQUIRED* - A basic list of the sources that you used to find your information. Include any and all information (author, title of article, website, date created, etc.) DIRECTIONS -Label each colony by name -Color each colony neatly -Group the regions with similar color -Put a yellow star on… a. New York City b. Philadelphia c. Boston d. Charleston -Identify some of the major rivers, mountain ranges and other territories -Ensure the whole map is neat, colorful and artistic in nature MERCHANT’S LOG Directions: Discover what resources existed in your region. The purpose they served (traded for another good, used to build a final project), the colony or environment they are found in, and an interesting fact about that resource during the colonial period.
