This slide was created by, Felise Kearney Dedicated to all my babies <3 I have lots of goals for myself and my family. I would really like time further my nursing education. I really enjoy working with the elderly and I love children. Those are the people I cater to the most. I am a very caring and helpful person and I try to make positive efforts with everything I do. I would benefit from this computer class because I have very little to no knowledge of the computer or its world! I realize how vital and important any source of computer knowledge is today especially, with all the technology today. Everything is on the computer and I need to know. I sometimes feel like an air head because, my 14yr. old and even my 9yr. old has more computer knowledge than me! I sometimes need their assistance when trying to work or find something on the internet. I need to be more knowledgeable about all the great programs and sites that are available for my family and I that we may benefit from. I could use all the help accessible especially being a single parent and having a disabled child Grade 9 1. Help my child stay organized and practice good study habits. 2. Explore Summer programs or Camps to attend at local Colleges and Universities. Grade10 1. Support my child in preparing for and taking any test to fulfill high school graduation requirements. 2. Have my child start sophomore year by polishing study skills to help improve her/him in certain subjects. Grade11 1.Encourage my teen to take the PSAT to prepare for the SAT and qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. 2. Begin actively searching for Scholarships and financial aid. Grade12 1. Encourage my child to enroll in classes that offer college credits such as Advanced Placement and dual enrollment. 2. Have my child practice completing a college admission form and admission essay. The more education your child receives the more money he/she maybe able to earn. On average, a person with a four-year college degree earns as twice as much money as a person who didn't attend college. Education determines your Childs lifestyle. By attending college your child will likely have more flexibility to choose what type of home they live in, what type of car they drive, what places they’ll be able to vacation etc. The college entrance test needed for CSU, UC, and Independent schools are the ACT, and the SAT. Their both very important and should both be taking. The five different colleges that California offer are as follows, California Community Colleges, California State Universities, University of California, and Independent California Colleges and Universities, Specialized Schools and Colleges. I can practice reading fun with flash cards, and other things such as beginner books, posters, etc. I can improve my childs reading ability by regular visits to the library. I may also find interesting pictures. Make up a story about how the picture came to be, read picture books with my children may also encourage them to want to read. It may be of great help to review your childs day together. Have storytelling together as a family. Explain words and pictures also, sounds your child may not be familiar with. By becoming a proficient reader and writer my child will better understand what he/she is learning. May have the ability to become famous writers and publish books. A very good way to protect your kids online is to go step by step with them, help them sign up. Show them what to, and what not to share with cyber world. Make sure they don’t share personal information with strangers, block out as much as possible such as phone numbers, place of residence, etc. I would also tell them to ignore strangers, and to tell me if anyone tries to befriend them on the internet. They could be pedophiles. Cyber bullying is dangerous because it can cause a child to have low self-esteem, it may cause them to become depressed and can even lead to suicide. Monitor your Childs use on the computer, check your computer’s history regularly. Parental controls are a type of software that can block out (or filter) new sites with adult or inappropriate content (violence, sex, drugs). You may choose what type of content you want to block, and what you don’t. Restrict how much time your child spends online and what he/she does there. Face book is very helpful, it’s a very cool way to network. You can find friends and family that you’ve lost contact with. You may also stay in contact with love ones that are long distance via face book. I also like the fact that you can send invites to any event via face book and save money because you don’t have to buy invites, paper, postage, etc. Its also a nice way to share pictures with family and friends. Education is very important to us in Duarte. Students must complete a total of 220 credits for graduation, in addition to specific course requirements. Beginning in 2005 – 2006 school year and each year thereafter, each student completing grade 12 shall successfully pass the California High School Exit Examinations in Language Arts, and Mathematics as a condition of High School Graduation. Students also must demonstrate the use, and applications of basic computer skills. Duarte Unified enjoys unparalleled support from their neighboring cities, and the Duarte Town Center. As a small district nestled in an area where residents value their schools, and students, Duarte students benefit from high volunteerism from parents and the community. As a parent you should spend as much quality time as needed with your children to abstain them from alcohol. I would also listen ,and talk with my child to try and understand the pressures placed on them daily. The most severe effect of inhalants is death! It could kill you or cause severe damage to your brain and/or nervous system. Paint or stains on face, hands, cloths could be a sign of inhalant abuse. Also if they have a drunk or disorientated appearance, slurred speech, nausea or loss of appetite. The effects of marijuana and tobacco are similar because, they both cause damage to your lungs causing respiratory problems, and even chronic bronchitis. Having one on one with your child is a good way to establish communication between the two of you, also having regular meal time together as a family. It is very important to know exactly what your child is involved in. The “danger zone” is usually after school between the hours of 3pm-6pm. Its very important to be with your child at this time or make for certain that they have total adult supervision so that they may not look to drugs. Punishments should be mildly negative and not severe because overly severe punishments serve to undermine the quality of the parent-child relationship. By staying involved, you may help your child make positive choices in life. You must sit down with your child and talk to them openly and calmly! By saying WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN? Libraries are very helpful and mostly all access is mainly free to the public. Some libraries are even open on Sundays, depending upon their funding. You may access free Live Homework Help everyday except for major holidays. They even have live tutors in different languages for different age groups too. Los Angeles County Libraries have a wide variety of events that range in different cities monthly. You may download Audio books, e-Books, Music for free at your nearest public library, all you need is a valid library card. Computer cards can be given to an out of town guest if needed, (for those who may not be eligible for a library card). It will allow them to get access to computers and wifi and the cards is valid for 1 month.
