Partner search from West Sweden Programme: Deadline: Contact person: Erasmus+ Key Action 1 or Key Action 2, alternatively URBACT III Spring 2014 for Erasmus+. No fixed deadline for URBACT III yet Name: Anastazia Kronberg and Nanna Siewertz Tulinius Title/profession: Project leader E-mail: anastazia.kronberg@boras.se, nanna.siewertz.tulinius@boras.se Telephone: +46 33 353037 Address: Miljöförvaltningen, 501 80 Borås Sweden Organisation: As the second largest municipality in western Sweden, Borås offers a rich choice of public services, trade and commerce, cultural events, recreation and education, as well as a highly specialized labour market. The City of Borås has around 105 000 inhabitants. Borås is the home of 11 500 SMEs and large companies in a wide range of different sectors. The entrepreneurial spirit in Borås is remarkable. More than 500 new companies are set up in the city every year. Borås is the Swedish centre for textiles and clothing with several famous companies, and a city of commerce with its 1 500 import and export companies. A lot of well-known mail order and e-commerce companies are located in Borås. A large number of suppliers are supporting the booming commerce working with logistics, distribution and marketing. The city’s university, with 15 000 students, provides education in textile and design, library and information, data and businesses and even several engineering diplomas. The head office of SP Technical research institute of Sweden is also situated in the municipality. The City of Borås has recently adopted the vision of a “Sustainable Borås in 2025”. According to this vision, only renewable energy sources will be used within the municipality by 2025. Sustainable consumption, trade and sustainable production on a global level are also part of Vision 2025. New environmental goals are being set at the moment, including energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. As a Fairtrade City, the municipality is working for poverty reduction on a global level and awareness raising about the effects our consumption has on developing countries and sustainability. The City of Borås is part of several regional and national networks where Borås, together with other public actors, develop new ways of working with awareness raising. An example is a project aiming to reduce food waste in schools and “Ekoligan”, a project aiming at getting restaurants and coffee shops to serve more organic and ethical products. Another project is “Sustainable Municipalities” where Borås, together with the Swedish Energy Agency and 30 municipalities, work to integrate energy issues into a wider community perspective. The municipality of Borås just ended a mobility management EU-project called Quest. As a result of this project, Borås is in the process of making a strategic mobility plan with focus on public transportation, walking and biking. Project idea: The City of Borås is looking for European partners interested in participating in a future EU-funded project aiming to develop their work with citizens’ dialogue and awareness raising on sustainable consumption. Borås is prepared to take on the role as either lead or project partner. A first step could be an application for a mobility project within Erasmus+, but is open to other suggestions as well. Background Borås is in the process of starting up a center called “Orangeriet” for civic dialogue and awareness raising about sustainable consumption, energy issues, consumer rights and city development. Orangeriet will be situated in the city park right in the centre of Borås. The center will organize exhibitions, lectures, seminars, cultural arrangements and other activities on sustainable development and serve as a meeting point for politicians and citizens. There will also be a restaurant situated in the centre where the citizens can enjoy a cup of coffee and at the same time interact and take part in the development of the city and be spontaneously inspired to a sustainable lifestyle. Outside of the glasshouse there will be a playground, an ice-skating ground, an open air dance floor and a stage. Orangeriet will be a meeting point for all citizens. The main activity areas for Orangeriet are consumer guidance, energy and climate guidance, lifestyle change projects on sustainable consumption, Fairtrade city, city planning development and civic dialogue. Awareness raising activities will be organised in all above mentioned areas. Orangeriet will highlight current issues regarding sustainability through long-term themes, but also ensure that current debate topics are addressed. The primary target group for Orangeriet is the citizens of Borås. Secondary groups are visitors, private companies, organizations, Borås municipal administrations, municipal companies and other cities in Sweden and the rest of the world. The City of Borås is therefore interested in finding European partners interested in collaborating in an EU-funded project focusing on citizens’ dialogue and awareness raising on sustainable consumption. Objectives The project is at an early stage of design. However, the main objectives of a future EU-funded project could be to: Gain knowledge regarding how citizens opinions can affect political decision making. Develop methods for civic dialogue and awareness raising about sustainable consumption (within for example Erasmus+ Key action 2 Strategic partnership). Identify and catalogue innovative technical solutions for interactivity as a tool for the above mentioned objectives Activities The activities to be carried out in the project could be to: Exchange of ideas and experience regarding citizens’ dialogue and awareness raising concerning sustainable consumption Investigate how decision makers are/can be influenced by public opinion Benchmark different technical solutions for interactivity If you find this proposal interesting, please do not hesitate to make contact for further details by the 15th of January at the latest.
