Engaging Communities Staffordshire is a Community Interest Company that has been set up in partnership
with NHS and local government to bring together engagement, consultation, consumer advice and insight
services on health and social care sector in Staffordshire into one independent place. We were awarded
the contract to deliver Healthwatch Staffordshire, the new consumer champion body for health and social
care services in the county. In addition, ECS offers subscription and consultancy services to a wide range
of public sector partners.
A crucial factor in our ability to reach out is the innovative and effective use of a variety of communications
and marketing tools, including media, social media, face to face engagement, working with partners and
other outlets and developing our brands and both ECS and Healthwatch Staffordshire websites.
We are therefore seeking an individual with a strong work ethic who is able to bring their communications
and marketing skills and experience to this varied and interesting role.
Job Purpose:
Duties and Responsibilities
Communications & Marketing:








Responsibility for the continuous improvement and development of the ECS and Healthwatch
websites.
Regular review and updates of the ECS and Healthwatch website design, content and functionality.
To co-ordinate all website activity and deliver online and digital marketing activities.
Manage the day to day activity on the ECS and Healthwatch websites digital platforms including
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, on-line forums and other social media tools to broaden the
reach of our communications.
Work with the Engagement Manager to identify communications/marketing opportunities and take
these forward.
Co-ordinate the production of marketing materials required such as exhibition materials,
promotional products and portfolio of tailored presentations.
Produce marketing campaign plans for ECS and Healthwatch services, projects and events.
Develop a strong relationship with our PR agency and liaise with them to maximise any media
opportunities and press releases and align external communications to those opportunities.











Forge effective relationships with other communications/marketing officers in partner organisations
to identify opportunities for joint working and promotion of events and activities including a range
of standard and tailored articles and editorials for use in publications across 8 districts of
Staffordshire and editing these for targeted campaigns/audiences.
Production of volunteer recruitment copy and materials to promote our volunteer opportunities and
recruitment through marketing and publicity campaigns, events and volunteer recruitment websites
and communication and voluntary sector organisations.
Responsibility for the design and development of ECS and Healthwatch services marketing literature
including brochures, leaflets and case studies for use in promotion of those services.
Develop and maintain a distribution plan for Healthwatch literature and promotional materials to
ensure county-wide distribution and coverage and provide monthly update reports on this activity.
Support the Engagement Manager in the production and regular review of the ECS and Healthwatch
Communications & Marketing strategy with lead responsibility for the development of digital
marketing strategies and implementation.
Use of analytic tools eg. Google Analytics to monitor the usage/success of communications in driving
traffic to the websites and producing a monthly report and recommendations to increase activity
and impact.
Produce a monthly report on communications and marketing activities, impact and outcomes to
inform KPI and contract reporting.
Research editorial opportunities and proactively look for new opportunities and outlets for
promoting ECS and Healthwatch.
Lead on the production of the Healthwatch monthly newsletter and Healthwatch Annual Report.
Build a portfolio of images/videos for use in marketing materials, website and publicity.
Support the Engagement Co-ordinator in the development of young person focussed materials and
website design and development.
Information & Signposting:


Co-ordination and production of copy for the Healthwatch Service Directories ensuring accuracy and
completeness of all information.
Regular review and development of service information leaflets, posters and brochures for
ECS/Healthwatch products and service offerings.
General:







Work closely with colleagues in support of research and engagement activities and projects to
ensure a joined up approach for all communications and marketing activities.
Provide support to the Engagement Team for engagement and volunteer events, consultations,
campaigns and projects.
Assist with the co-ordination and promotion of events.
Assist with the co-ordination and delivery of projects and undertaking project team roles as
required.
Maintain the security and confidentiality of data and other information provided to ECS and
Healthwatch at all times.
Provide in-house training to colleagues and undertake training where necessary.
Carry out other duties as required.
Essential Skills
















Demonstrable experience of website content management and development with Wordpress CMS.
Demonstrable skills and experience for the use of social media/digital communications and
marketing platforms.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Experience with Google analytics and reporting.
Experience of developing multi-channel marketing plans and campaigns.
An understanding of marketing with multiple brand guidelines.
Ability to write compelling and accurate copy for multiple audiences and channels.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a wide range of time limited tasks and
projects.
High level of IT competence and knowledge of administrative processes.
Experience of using databases and/or CRM systems.
Ability to produce written reports.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people.
Good team working and ability to create effective working relationships within ECS and with partner
organisations.

Ability to work flexibly with occasional evening and weekend working.
Desirable








Experience with HTML/CSS and website development/design.
Experience of design in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).
An understanding of SEM including writing SEO ready content.
A good understanding of technology eg. AV equipment.
A Communications/marketing/social media degree.
Experience and/or knowledge of the health and social care field.
Experience of supporting volunteers.
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
