About the Author and Illustrator

The Author is Ronald Dahl he was born 1916 in Wales of Norwegian
parents. He spent his childhood in England. At age 26 he moved to
Washington D.C., and it was there that he began to write. After establishing
himself as a writer for adults, he began writing children’s stories in 1960
while living in England with his family. His first stories were written for his
own children, to whom many of his books are dedicated. He died in 1990.
He is now considered one of the most beloved storytellers of our time.

The Illustrator is Nancy Ekholm Burkert. She was born February 16, 1933,
in Sterling Colorado. Her most celebrated work, Snow White and Seven
Drawfs(1972), won the New York Times notable book award and a
Caldecott Metal. The Caldecott metal is the most prestigious American
children's book award.

There is 119 pages in James and the Giant Peach.
Characters

James-James is a kind, little, helpful
boy who lost his parents because a
rampaging rhino who ate them in 1
whole bite. Then he had to live with his
hideous old Aunts, Aunt Spiker and
Aunt Sponge. They lock him up in his
room with rats, mice, and some snakes
and bats.

Miss. Spider is a sad
spider because
mostly her whole
family got killed
from Aunt Spiker
and Aunt Sponge.
Because of James
Miss. Spider feels a
lot better.
Earthworm
Earthworm is a earthworm who is blind and
angry mostly every day. He argues with
everybody especially Centipede.
Centipede

Centipede has 42 legs and he all ways
asks James to take all he’s shoes off. Also
he argues with Earthworm.
Ladybug

Ladybug is a 6 spotted ladybug. Her
family is different like her cousins are 2
spotted. She says 6 spotted ladybugs like
her are lucky.
Silkworm

Silkworm is a worm who makes silk like
Spider. She was the one who help James
capture the seagulls with the silk.
Glowworm

Glowworm is the one who help everyone
at night using her light. Get this with her
you don’t have to pay a electricity bill
every year!
The Old Man

A friendly yet mysterious wizard who is only seen once,
yet is ultimately behind all of magical occurrences in the
book, and also starts the adventure when he gives
James a bag full of glowing green alligator tongues. It is
these magical items which enchant the giant peach and
its insect inhabitants, allowing James to begin his surreal
journey and escape his evil aunts in the process. The
wizard is not seen again after his encounter with James.
The Giant Peach

The Giant Peach was not there until James
tripped and dropped the bag of alligator
tongues the old man gave him. Then
James found out there was a peach but it
didn’t stop grow until the peach was as
big as the house!
Settings

The Settings are James’s house, Aunt
Spiker’s and Aunt Sponge house, the Sea,
the Sky, and New York.
Plot/Problem

The problems were sharks were the
peach, the sky men were charging at
them, and the peach was falling from the
sky.
Solution

The solution for the shark problem was
Earthworm would be bait for seagulls and Miss.
Spider and Silkworm would make silk and every
time a seagull came by James captured the
seagull. So when they had a lot of seagulls the
peach could float up in the air. So the sharks
couldn’t eat them and the peach
2nd Solution

For the Sky Men they went in side the
peach and hid in the corners.
3nd Solution

When the peach was falling they couldn’t
do anything but hide in the corners but
they fall on the gound they were saved by
the Empire State Building’s point up at the
top.
Favorite Part

My favorite part was when they all did
something in New York. Like James wrote
James and the Giant Peach when he got
older.
Why should someone read this book

Somebody should read this book because
surprising features.
