APPLICATION GUIDELINES
1. Qualifications: Applicants for Faculty Instructor must have the qualifications below at minimum. Please
complete the Certified or Specialty Discipline PQAS application if these qualifications are not met.

Individuals must, at minimum, have a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Early
Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or a related field, as defined on Pennsylvania’s
Career Lattice Level VII. (For SACC instructors, credits may be in Elementary Education, excluding
Secondary Education.)

Faculty who have a Doctoral level degree, and do not have the ECE credits, may choose
Competency Groups that can be supported by their educational background.

Faculty need to have taught a minimum of four courses over the last two years. In lieu of an original
module, please include a print out of your course schedule for the last two years as an indicator of
your experience.

Faculty must have at least two years of experience as an instructor at an accredited institute of
higher education.

Must currently be employed as a faculty member at an accredited institute of higher education.
2. Curriculum Vitae: Attach an up-to-date curriculum vitae detailing background and experience as a faculty
member with an accredited institute of higher education. This vitae must include:

Educational degrees from accredited institutions. Include year(s), degree(s) awarded, major(s) or
field(s) of study.

Other professional credentials /related educational experiences.

Experience as an adult educator /trainer.

Employment history, including current affiliation as a faculty member at an accredited institute of
higher education.

Teaching experience verifying a minimum of four college credit courses.

The specified teaching experience must be within the past two years.
3. Transcripts: Transcripts must be included for each degree held. Student copies of transcripts are acceptable
as long as the school name, student name, and degree are on the transcript.
4. Letters of Reference: Provide two letters of reference which speak to your ability as an instructor. One letter
of reference should come from a colleague or supervisor at the higher education institute for whom you
provide instruction. Letters must be dated within the last six months prior to submitting the application.
5. Linking Standards, Curriculum Framework, and Assessment: This course is available as a three hour online course or a
six hour face to face course that can be found in the Course Catalog on the PD Registry. Login at
www.pakeys.org, then click on PD Registry tab on the left hand menu, then click on the Course Catalog tab. In
the search bar, type “linking” to search for a location in your area to complete this course

6. Adult Learning Principles: This course is available online and can be found at www.pakeys.org, then login and click
on the PQAS tab.
7. Core Knowledge Competencies and Big Ideas Framework: This course is available as a three hour online or face to face
course that can be found in the Course Catalog on the PD Registry. Login at www.pakeys.org, then click on PD
Registry tab on the left hand menu, then click on the Course Catalog tab. In the search bar, type “Core
Knowledge Competencies” to search for a location in your area to complete this course.
8. PQAS Application Assurances Certificate: This is an online course in the PD Registry where the applicant certifies
that they have read, and will abide by, the assurances and NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, Supplement for
Early Childhood Educators. The course can be found in the Course Catalog on the PD Registry at
www.pakeys.org. Login to the Portal, click on PD Registry on the left hand menu, then click on the Course
Catalog tab. In the search bar, type “assurances”.
APPLICATION PROCESSING TIMELINE
Once an application and all required documentation are received, the approval process should be completed within
90 days. An applicant with missing information will be notified by email and allowed 60 days from date of email to
complete their application. After that time, applications are considered denied and applicants will receive a letter
noting that they will need to reapply.
At the completion of the process, an applicant will receive a letter of notification indicating approval status. If
approved, the PQAS approval is valid for 5 years at which time a renewal application is required.
