Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §230.5(b) requires every person seeking educator certification in Texas to perform satisfactorily on comprehensive examinations. The purpose of the examinations is to ensure that each educator has the prerequisite content and professional knowledge necessary for an entry-level position in Texas public schools. How do I register for a test? ► ► ► The quickest and easiest way to register is through the ETS online registration system at www.texes.ets.org/registration. Can I take the test by computer? What if I need to reschedule my test? Many tests are administered via computer at specially equipped test centers. Most are offered on a continuous basis while others are offered during limited administration windows. Test dates and registration deadlines are on the back of this brochure. Registrations are accepted on a firstcome, first-served basis. Requests to change your test, test date, test center or test session can be made through the ETS online registration system at www.texes.ets.org/registration. How much does it cost to take the test? $120 $ 35 $ 75 $ 50 Test fee (per test) Late registration fee (PBT tests) Emergency registration fee (PBT tests) International site fee Can alternate testing arrangements be made if I need them? ► ► ► Monday PBT testing can be arranged if your religious convictions prevent you from testing on Saturday or you are a member of the armed forces and have duties that prevent you from testing on Saturday. Testing accommodations can be arranged if you have a disability or health-related need that requires accommodations. The Bulletin Supplement for Test Takers with Disabilities or Health-Related Needs contains contact information, registration procedures and forms. Valid and acceptable identification with your name, signature and photograph is required for admission to a test. ID requirements are strictly enforced. Further information and a list of acceptable ID documents are available on the ETS TExES website at www.texes.ets.org. What security measures are taken at test centers? You may be photographed and fingerprinted as confirmation of your identity. At some CAT testing centers, the use of electronic detection scanning devices (e.g., hand-held detectors/wands) has also been implemented. Failure to comply with these security measures will result in dismissal from the test and forfeiture of your test fees. Where can I find test preparation materials? A wide variety of free preparation materials is available on the ETS TExES website. You can download Preparation Manuals for TExES, TExMaT and TASC/TASC-ASL tests as well as other publications such as Tests at a Glance, Reducing Test Anxiety and Study Tips: Preparing for the Texas Educator Certification Tests. Videos and interactive demonstrations of computeradministered tests are also available to familiarize you with what happens on test day and help you get ready for testing. When will my scores be available? See the testing schedule on the back of this brochure. How do I apply for certification? Application for certification does not proceed automatically based upon receipt of your scores by Texas Education Agency (TEA). To apply for certification, you must go to the TEA website at www.tea.state.tx.us and follow the application for certification instructions.
