11/6/14 Good morning, Thank you very much for taking care of my classes for me- I really appreciate it! Periods 1 and 2 are Pre-Algebra, Period 3 is Geometry, and I teach art (painting) to 7th graders for enrichment which happens after first lunch. Please make 70 double sided copies the front should be page one of the “Distributive property using area” worksheet and on the backside “more practice using the distributive property”. Also make 100 copies of the “foundation 5 expressions review worksheet. And 20 copies of “warm up- another study guide for quiz 7.” I have paper in my classroom in the second cabinet from the purple bulletin board, and I also have some in my “cubby” in the staff lounge/copy room. My copy code is 8965 with no password. To use my document projector you don’t need a computer- just make sure that the projector is on and set to receive from “computer 2” and that the document projector itself is on and you should be good to go. There are lavender hall passes in the top left drawer of my desk and there is one-sided blank paper that you can use to write on and project with the document projector in the bottom drawer of my desk. I have a T.A. second period named Noel. Please have him set up the art supplies like he did on Tuesday: making 6 piles of 3 plates, 2 cups, 5-6 brushes, and 6 paper towels, after that please write him a hall pass to go to the counseling center- he knows what to do there. Thank you. Pre-algebra lesson plan: For their “warm up” please write on the side white board “Pre-Algebra Warm Up. Simplify the following expressions”. 1) 5x + 4 – (2x +7) 2) 2 – 8x + (4x – 3) 3) 6a -7 + 3a + 2 4) 5x(10) 5) 3(2n) Give them as long as it takes for nearly all to be done and then ask for 5 volunteers to come up and solve one problem each. Have the class verify that they’re right. And you double check, please Answers: 1) 3x – 3 2) -4x – 1 3) 3a – 5 4) 50x 5) 6n At the end of class, erase the solutions but keep the problems for period 2 to do them also. (Leave the problems up at the end of the day, too as 4th period will need to use them as well.) We did a lot of the “distributive property using area” worksheet on Tuesday. I can’t remember exactly where we left off for period one, but we didn’t get as far as the grey box. For period 2, I had them copy the grey box defining distributive property in their notebooks and we stopped there. Walk through showing them how to do the problems through #15 and then let them go from there finishing both sides of the worksheet. Have them work with their table group one problem at a time until everyone at the table understands how to do it. Once the whole table is finished with both sides of the worksheet, please give them the “Foundations 5 expression review” worksheet and tell them to do it the same way- in their table group one problem at a time until everyone understands. This worksheet is homework if they don’t finish in class. Tell them that there is a test on Monday on these kinds of problems and to be sure they understand how to do them before they leave today and to study over the weekend! Geometry lesson plan: For their warm up please instruct them to not write on the “Warm up- another study guide for Quiz #7” hand out but to copy and solve all 10 problems as well as #13 and #154 from page 277 in their textbook in their warm up section of their binder. Let them work together on this, please. Once they’re done, go over the answers together, please. Key: 1) Not congruent 2) HL 3) ASA 4) SAS 5) 6 6) 8 7) 72 8) 102 9) -10 10) -9 Please ask if there are any questions from last night’s homework which was P. 268 #1-21 odd (tell them I’ll check it when I get back, but that today is the day to ask questions on it). Ideally they’ll enter and write the problem numbers they had a hard time with on the whiteboard but they almost never do. Divide up the problems and distribute them among the table groups. Tell them to work together to solve it, and to ask for questions if they need help. My teacher’s edition of the textbook has solutions in the margins. Have them rewrite the answers neatly on a clean sheet of paper and project the answer for the class while explaining their solution. Have them continue to take notes on 5-1 (the other part of their homework was to write the definition and theorem for section 5-1). The essential questions is “How can I use properties of midsegments to solve problems?” Go over problem 1 (on page #286) together as a class, and then have them do Got it #1 individually at first, and then discuss with their neighbor, and then go over the solution as a class. Likewise do problem #2 together as a class, and have them do go it #2 individually, then with a partner, then altogether. Once you’re done with that, have them get started on their homework which is P. 288 #1-4, 7-33 odd and to study for their Quiz and mastery test which will be on Monday! Enrichment lesson plans: We’re painting color wheels! My example is on the front whiteboard along with some example color wheels. Please distribute an example to each table and have them mix colors to try to match as close to the example as possible. On the counter in the back are piles of 3 plates, 2 cups and 5-6 paint brushes, and 6 paper towels. Each table gets a pile. Please remind them that they do not need any more than 2 inches of water in their cups and to use the paper towel to help clean the brush before mixing colors. Encourage them to be as neat and exact as possible when painting the section of their color wheel so it will look nice when they’re done. The paint is in the top right drawer of my desk all the way in the back. Please have them bring their plates to you for paint and only give them two colors at a time and a little goes a long way, so not too much, please! At 1:00 have them start cleaning up. Assign one clean up person per table, so that there are only 6 people in line at the back sink. Assign an extra table in the back per table group for them to put their paintings on so they know exactly where to go tomorrow to retrieve their painting. Rinse out the cups, rinse off the plates, and rinse the paint brushes gently under the running water until the water that comes off of them is clear and there are no visible signs of color anywhere on the brush. Store them bristle side up in the pitcher. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Please let me know how it goes! ~ Mrs. Kacie Gene Kirkendall P.S. Feel free to call or text if there’s any issues. (818) 731-9024
