AP Psychology January Lesson Plans Week One and Two Monday 01-04 Teacher Workday Tuesday 01-05 Standard: Identify key contributors in intelligence research and testing (e.g. Alfred Binet, Francis Galton, Howard Gardner, Charles Spearman, Robert Sternberg, Louis Terman, David Wechsler) Standard: Compare and contrast historic with contemporary theories of intelligence Essential Question: Who are the key figures in the study of intelligence? Warm Up: Give back and discuss first semester final exam and list behaviors students consider as intelligent Activity: Students will work on folder activity (create a table with information about important people in intelligence) This should take the period to complete and will be completed for homework Wednesday 01-06 Standard: Identify key contributors in intelligence research and testing (e.g. Alfred Binet, Francis Galton, Howard Gardner, Charles Spearman, Robert Sternberg, Louis Terman, David Wechsler) Standard: Explain how psychologists design tests including standardization strategies and other techniques to establish reliability and validity Standard: Interpret the meaning of scores in terms of the normal curve Essential Question Who are the key figures in the study of intelligence and How do psychologists define and study intelligence Warm Up: Go over person table to start the class fill in and answer any questions Activity: Go over information about standardization, reliability, validity through the normal curve Wrap Up: Take the Remote Associates Test home and complete Thursday 01-07 Standard: Explain how psychologists design tests, including standardization strategies and other techniques to establish reliability and validity Essential Question: How do psychologists know whether a test is reliable and or valid? Why are these qualities important? Warm Up: Give students World War I IQ Test Activity: Discuss standardization, reliability and validity Divide into groups and have each group come up with an operational definition of friendliness and develop a five item survey based on their definition have other groups complete survey Complete statistical analysis of survey Homework: Study for Vocabulary Quiz Friday 01-08 Standards are all of the above standards Essential Questions above Activity: Vocabulary Quiz Chapter 11 Intelligence Activity: Students present articles related to psychology Monday 01-11 Standard: : How do psychologists know whether a test is reliable and or valid? Why are these qualities important? Essential Question: How do psychologists define and study intelligence? Warm Up: Go over Mensa worksheet Activity: Students work in groups to operationally define friendliness and create five questions and collect data from other students and come up with mode, median, mean, range, and standard deviation Wrap Up: Discuss validity and reliability after exercise remind them to have questions completed Tuesday 01-12 Standard: Discuss the stability of intelligence scores and discuss evidence for both genetic and environmental influence on intelligence Essential Question: How do testing scores differ between group administration and individual administration of intelligence tests? Between genders? Races? Socioeconomic groups? Warm Up: Discuss previous validity and reliability activity Activity: Jigsaw Activity about genetic and environmental effects on intelligence Wrap Up: Go over information Wednesday 01-13 Standard: Discuss the history of eugenics Essential Question: What is Eugenics? Activity: Students work with a partner to analyze a visual about eugenics and present to the class Wrap Up: Discuss any questions for the test Thursday 01-14 Free Response Questions Friday 01-15 Multiple Choice Test
