English II Pre-AP - Lesson Plans - Week of 9/15-9/19 Monday Tuesday Wed/Thur Friday Daily Objective: The student will analyze the impact of diction, detail, imagery, syntax, and figurative language in a poem. How Assessed: Poetry post-test, “Ozymandias” quiz Daily Objective: The student will determine the tone of a poem based on the use of imagery, diction, and poetic devices. How Assessed: poetry post-test – TODAY!!! Daily Objective: The student will discuss the impact of film media on portraying serious historic events. Materials Needed: Putting it All Together with “Ozymandias” Daily Activities: 1. Do First – Journal- identify the common literary elements you should look for when analyzing poetry and write about the impact they can have. 2. Guide students through beginning of “Ozymandias” 3. Direct students to work to end of 4th pg of 8. 4. Go over some of the more challenging questions. Materials Needed: Putting it All Together with “Ozymandias” Daily Activities: 1. Do First – Pass back graded work, and provide brief commentary on timed-writing essays. 2. Finish “Ozymandias” activity. Turn in for a quiz grade. Materials Needed: Poetry test, ScanTrons, lined paper Daily Activities: 1. Do First – last chance for exam practice – pick a skill you are most concerned about and practice with that skill card. Go over answers to all skills. 2. Advise students to start with annotating poem, then read questions and look to poem for right answers, then read answer choices and attempt to answer. 3. Students have remainder of period to complete exam. Materials Needed: Life is Beautiful DVD, Holocaust terms note sheet Daily Activities: 1. Do First – write about what you know about the Holocaust and other examples of genocide from history. 2. Provide note sheet with important terms and information about those terms re: the Holocaust, and blank space for their reaction to film. 3. Show corresponding clips from Life is Beautiful. Pause for commentary and notes. Rinse. Repeat.
