What is the Baroque Period?
• An artistic, architectural, musical and
decorative style that first developed in the
early 1600’s.
• Most common in areas of strong Catholic
influence
– The Catholic Church continued to be a major
patron of the arts
– Council of Trent called for patronage of arts as
means to educate the illiterate population about
religion
