In 1995, Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at
Stanford University. They started working on a
new search engine. They also formed a
network of a lot of cheap pc’s. This network
responded to searches faster than fewer and
more expensive servers.

The size of the database
Google grew fast and is for the time being the most
used search engine on the Internet. Google no
longer give information on the number of pages in
their databases. But they say that they have about
3 times as many pages as their closest competitor.

More about Google
Google works like this
PageRank: shown graphically
Google consists of three parts:
1. A Robot
that searches the Web and puts the websites it finds
into Google’s database.
2. An Index
covering every word, image, film etc. in the database.
No. 1
No. 2
3. A Search Engine
that sends search terms to the index and obtains and
sorts the pages according to certain rules.
PageRank
Google shows the pages in a row according to
how often the pages have been linked to. This
happens in a process called Page Ranktechnology.
