What is the setting of the first part of the story?
-The setting takes place in Transylvania. Jonathan Harker finds himself at the Hotel Royale and the

2. What does Jonathan Harker find waiting for him when he arrives at the Golden Krone Hotel?
-Jonathan Harker found a cheery-looking elderly woman and an older man who gave him a letter
from Count Dracula. Pg. 4-5
3. Why does the hotel landlady beg Jonathan not to continue his journey?
-She begged him not to continue on his journey because it was the eve of St. George’s Day.
Supposedly when the clock strikes midnight, all of the evil things in the world will come out. Pg. 6

-The landlady of the hotel gave him a crucifix. Pg.7
5. How does Jonathan Harker describe the driver that meets him at the Borgo Pass?
-The driver that Jonathan met had prodigious strength and bright, red eyes.

-While riding in the carriage on the way to Castle Dracula, Jonathan kept seeing a blue flame in the
nearby woods. The driver also saw it too, and he would climb out of the carriage and walk to it. Pg.

-On the way to Castle Dracula, there were many things that scared Jonathan. One of them was the

-He told Jonathan that he couldn’t walk because the dogs were too fierce, and he might have enough
trouble before the night is over.
