Peace of Augsburg
BY: BROOKE MCGOVERN AND LIAM MURPHY
What Happened?
The Peace of Augsburg was signed in
1555
The signing meant that princes could
choose which religion they wanted to
practice.
It also allowed Lutheranism and Roman
Catholicism
Who was involved?
The Peace of Augsburg was a
peace treaty between Charles
V and the princes of the Holy
Roman Empire.
German leaders became more
powerful and Protestant
leaders gained land.
How does this event show disunity in
Europe?
Even after it was signed, religion
in Germany was not settled.
It covered Lutheranism and
Roman Catholicism but it did not
allow Calvinism or Anabaptism.
This lead to the Thirty Years of
War.
