School of Ministry Tony Germain Chuck Smith C3000 Series/Gen. 1:1-12/C3001 October 5th 2011 Textual Observation: The first statement of the Bible, “In the Beginning God…” (Vs. 1), The condition of the earth before creation (Vs. 2), The first day of creation, God created Day and Night (Vss. 3-5), The second day of creation, God created a vaporous atmosphere above the waters (Vss. 6-8), The third day of creation, God divided the waters from dry land and brought forth vegetation to cover the earth (Vss. 9-12). Interpretation: The word Genesis means “beginning”. So how long ago was that? The bible is not clear on this however it does make clear that God in fact created from materials non-existent one moment, then brought into being the next to form both spirit and matter the next. It would be from this first canvass of creation that God would later make, form and mold the details of creation as we have come to know it. It would be at the beginning of this creation that time was introduced into the atmosphere of the eternal. How do we view this today? Do we take a literal view of 7 to 9 thousand years as a starting point of creation? Or do we believe in the popular theory of evolution? How reliable is the theory of evolution? Do we believe the simple and ever steady word of God concerning creation and apply trust? Or do we place our trust in the ever complex and changing ideas of evolution? Where the world delves into the ever restless and tumultuous ideas and motives behind evolution, God grants the surest comfort and confidence to those who take God at His word. To have a growing understanding of creation is a wonderful thing. By it we receive some detail about the person and character or God. (Psalm 19:1-3) As we look into the night sky, we see the declarations of the glory of God, they speak of the expanse and seeming endlessness of creation. Without regard to a person’s Psalms 19:1-3 (KJV) 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. language, nature speaks in ever widening detail of the purposes God has set in nature. Application: The Book of Job, chapters 38 & 39 offer a great view of some details God has placed within creation. To view creation as a simple act would be to have a very short sighted view of God. This was the case with Job. The whole purpose of creation is to glorify God. (Psalm 145:10-13) Psalms 145:10-13 (KJV) 10 All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. 11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; 12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. 13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. As a believer, who is actively seeking to know God far better, it is a great comfort to know the stability of the platform on which I can base a trusting faith upon. The primary bases of that platform is the person of God Himself… “In the beginning, God!…” It is God’s work Psalms 124:8 (KJV) 8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. from beginning to end, upon which He has given me to trust in. The idea of the GAP Theory does help me understand the place of angel’s, the rebellion of Lucifer and the initial creation account of the spirit hovering over a darkened and void planet called earth. Isaiah 14:12-15 speaks of this rebellion by Lucifer. Jesus speaking, in Luke 10:18, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from Isaiah 14:12-15 (NKJV) 12 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' 15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. heaven”. While Rev. 12:7-9 speaks of the violence of the spiritual battle being waged even at this moment today. All conflicts today can find their source and intent in this spiritual battle that has plagued mankind from the time sin Revelation 12:7-9 (NKJV) 7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. entered into the picture of history. Ezekiel 28:11-19 gives more detail of the event of the fall Ezekiel 28:11-19 (NKJV) 11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 12 "Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord God: "You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. 14 "You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. 15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. 16 "By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. 17 "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you. 18 "You defiled your sanctuaries By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth In the sight of all who saw you. 19 All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, And shall be no more forever." ' " of Lucifer and how he accomplished that event.
