OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERACTION AND
FEEDBACK
Member Communication, Feedback, and
Interaction

Working premise
 Having a microphone for 2-3 people to speak in support or
opposition to CR is not the best interaction
• Selects for those fastest and loudest
 Want to broaden feedback to include as many people as
possible
• Mimic as much as possible the MAHC development process
with multiple rounds and modes of public comment
 Note: Burden of feedback is on members to read and get
involved

CRs open for anyone to submit: received 159 CRs
CRs posted March 31, open for member comment until
July 6 (~3 months) while TRC reviewing
 Zero comments received

TRC reviews posted in September for member comment
 Nine received by 9/30 deadline for conference use


Conference includes in-person and virtual interaction
opportunities
Comments accepted for another 2 weeks after conference
to allow time for reflection and suggested improvements
 CRs still open for change

Voting starts 1 month after Conference; open for 1 month
Conference Opportunities:

Breakout caucus discussion with other sector members
 Tuesday: 1-2pm, 7-9pm
 Wednesday: 2-3 pm




On-live Live Stream-based chat room discussion projected
for in-person attendees to see on screen (in-person and
virtual)---will be monitored and presented
Microphone for attendees once posted and chat room
feedback covered
In-person attendees can also submit written comments to
front podium if desired (put your name on them please so
we can clarify if needed)

Change Request (CR) Presentations

Presented by Section # in twelve 1-hour increments
 If you don’t want to hear some take a break and network with
colleagues
 We will stick to time for each hour but may shift timing within the
hour section presentation

Each section has ~ 4 CR presentations
 May be grouped by theme, same MAHC section since
they don’t need to be presented individually
 Where submitter did not agree to TRC changes both
suggestions are presented (for example 18/18A), you
will vote on them separately

completed, open microphone for attendees

CMAHC organizational meeting held in Portland, OR in

Where are We on Adoption of the MAHC?

Key consideration
 States must review head to head and fit into regulatory or
legislative process and timeframe so adoption can take 1-2
years
• CDC fecal incident response (small element): 21 states
adopted in 1-2 years; all states in 5 years—small section
• FDA Food Code adoption sped up in years 3-6---entire
model code


NACCHO endorsement
23 state and local jurisdictions comparing MAHC to
existing code or moving ahead on potential adoption
(eg., New Mexico, Indiana)
 CDC has conducted four head-to-head comparisons to be made
for key states
