PRESENT THAT WILL TEACH THE CLASS ABOUT FASHIONS DURING

THIS TIME.

 British Invasion (Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc)

 Folk/Message Music (Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, etc)

 Hard Rock and Roll (Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, etc)

 King of Rock and Roll – Elvis Presley

 Motown (The Miracles, The Four Tops, etc - history and examples)

 Beach/Surf Music (Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, etc) o You will need to play examples for the class

 Woodstock

EACH PERSON NEEDS TO HAVE RESEARCH ABOUT THE MUSIC THAT

THEY CHOSE TO STUDY AND A SHORT REPORT TO HAND IN.

EACH PERSON NEEDS TO MAKE UP CDs TO PLAY TO THE CLASS AND

HAVE COPIES OF LYRICS TO PASS OUT. EACH PERSON NEEDS TO

EXPLAIN THEIR CHOICE OF SONGS, WHERE THE GROUP CAME FROM,

AND HOW THAT IMPACTED THE MUSIC BACK THEN AND NOW, ALONG

WITH A PROJECT OF THEIR CHOICE.

DIRECTIONS: Each person in your group must choose a different topic. You will be responsible for doing the research for your specific topic and contributing that information to your group’s presentation. Each person will be responsible for handing in their own short report (neatly handwritten or typed - approximately one – two pages) and a project. See the timeline to help you keep on schedule.

 Sports (major events, Olympics, football, baseball, famous athletes)

 Entertainment (movies, TV shows, theater, radio)

 Social Activities ( fads (things that were popular then), games, toys, etc)

 Economics (cost of living, average salaries, cost of gasoline) (compare/contrast essay and project)

 Women’s Rights (Make sure you include Gloria Steinem)

 Race Riots (Harlem, Philadelphia, Newark, Detroit)

 The 1964 Missing Civil Rights Murders (James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and

Michael Schwerner)

 Health Care [Social Security, Medical Inventions]

EACH PERSON WILL PRESENT THEIR TOPIC TO THE CLASS AND USE

THEIR PROJECT TO HELP TEACH THE CLASS ABOUT ALL THE

DIFFERENT TOPICS UNDER SOCIETY.

Be careful if you are researching sports during this time period. Don’t just write an essay on an athlete’s personal statistics. Dig deeper! [Personal life, rise to fame, influences, obstacles based on this time period, etc]

The Sports category may be broken up into different sports, not by athletes.

1960s PROJECT TIMELINE

Wednesday, 3/11: Project directions will be explained. If you are absent, you must see me as soon as you get back this week.

Thursday 3/19: Groups will sit together and finalize who is doing what topic. Each group will get research materials needed for that category. ipads will be provided.

HW – Research your topic online – bring in your notes!

Friday 3/20: Sit with your group at a table. Work on individual research and note taking. ipads will be provided. If you have time, you can start the rough draft/final copy of your 1-2 page report.

HW – Finish any research and note taking that you didn’t get to finish today.

Monday 3/23: Sit with your group and work on a way to present everyone’s information into one cohesive format. Everyone must be involved in the presentation.

You will be provided class time to work on this, but if you choose to meet on your own time out of school, you are more than welcome to do so.

HW – Work on the final copy of your 1-2 page report. Final reports are due on Wednesday, 3/25 with citation page.

Tuesday 3/24: Sit with your group and finalize your group presentation. If time, you can start practicing. It must incorporate everyone’s specific topic.

HW – Finish your final copy of the report on your topic and be ready to hand it in this tomorrow, Wednesday, 3/25.

Wednesday 3/25: Hand in your research report. Sit with your group and work on any last minute group presentations. Use the remainder of this period to practice your presentation to make sure it flows. Presentations will be over the next two days! Be prepared to go either day with whatever props, clothing, music, etc. you may need.

Thursday 3/26 and Friday 3/27: Group Presentations and Completion of Group

Participation Rating.

Project Ideas: Posters, pamphlets, timelines, newspapers, songbooks, collages, fashion show, live newscast, timelines, fashion magazine, skits, clips of movies or TV shows, PPT Presentations (just don’t put too much on a page and read from each slide – mostly used for visuals), Venn Diagram (good idea for Economics), DVD of presentation created at home…. The ideas are limitless!

SUGGESTIONS: Use index cards for your notes as you present, practice your presentations, props and clothing add to your presentation. Be Creative and Have Fun!
