A.A.T Apprenticeship Factsheet
Is this course for you?
An Apprenticeship is a work based learning course where you attend college for one day a week to gain a
vocational qualification and complete paid work with an employer for the remaining four days. The
Apprenticeship, in A.A.T is an ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accounting. Training involves the
recording of income and receipts, making and recording payments, preparing ledger balances and initial trial
balance, supplying information for management control and working with information technology.
What do you need to get on the course?
You will need Two GCSE’s Grade C or above in Math and English or equivalent. Entry to the course is subject to
having employment within the industry. The suitability of your employer will be assessed by means of Training
Needs Analysis, Health and Safety Appraisal and check on Employers Liability Insurance.
How long is the course?
Apprenticeship Level 2 is 1 Year Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 is 1 – 2 Years depending on each student.
When will you be attending?
You will be attending college 1 day per week, plus on site assessment.
When does the course start?
Most courses are September starts however each course is individual and can offer starts throughout the year

What is the course about?
Apprenticeships are a modern way to train. The course combines paid, employed work experience with time out
of your job to gain career-focussed training at College. Level 2 Certificate in Accounting: -Basic accounting 1 + 11
-Work effectively in accounting & finance -Basic costing -Computerized accounting -Professional ethics in
accounting & finance -ERR Level 3 Diploma in Accounts: -Accounts preparation 1 +11 -Cash management Costs & reviews -Indirect tax -Spreadsheet software -Professional ethics in accounting -ERR Workbook Key
Skills You may be exempt from these if you have achieved Grade C in Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
Apprenticeship/Foundation Level
Is work experience a necessary part of the course
You will need to be in paid employment and working a minimum of 16 hours a week to enrol on this course.
How will you be assessed?
For the NVQ in A.A.T. your job knowledge and practice is assessed through a portfolio of evidence, College
assessment and also an examination set and marked by the A.A.T.
What qualification will you achieve?
When you complete your Apprenticeship, you will gain these qualifications: •QCF Certificate or Diploma in
Accounting (AAT)
What can this course lead to?
You could progress first onto an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) then onto Diploma Level (NVQ/QCF Level
4). There is also the opportunity to study professional accounting qualifications including ACCA, CIMA and
CIPFA.
