Word Processing
The act of creating, editing and producing a text document
Ribbon
Area where all of the tabs are located; acts as the major
organizational unit of Microsoft Word
Dialog Box Launcher
particular group
Displays the dialog box which contains all of the functions of a
Scroll Bar

If clicked on, will allow you to move up and down through a
Status Bar
gives you information related to the document such as page
number, word count and whether or not the computer has found an error in the text

a personalized letter which is sent to multiple individuals with the
only difference being the individuals' names
Review Tab
allows you to check your document for errors, add
comments to a document, track changes, make changes, compare your document to the sources you
used, protect the document and to regulate the changes that can be made to the document
View Tab
screen
holds the groups which affect how you see the document on the

a series of commands or instructions you have grouped together
as a single command that accomplishes a task automatically
Cursor
the black blinking line located on the document
Insertion Point
a keyboard shortcut used to save a document
Enter Key

Print Layout View

Outline View
shows the structure of the document as levels of
headings and body text; provides tools for editing and seeing the structure of the document
Draft View
presents the content of a document in a simplified
layout which is easy to edit and use for typing; you cannot see any headers or footers which are shown
in other views
Select Text to choose a portion of the text by highlighting it
Non-contiguous Selection
selecting certain portions of a document without
selecting the entire document; can be completed by holding down the control key while you select the
portions of the document you need
Cutting
this process consists of selecting an object or text and
removing it from its current location, placing it on the clipboard and relocating it to another location
Copying
this process allows you to select an object or text,
make an exact replica of it and use it in a different location without disturbing the original selection
Drag and Drop Method
a method of copying that involves selecting the text or
object and then dragging it to the desired location and releasing the mouse button
Formatting
the act of customizing a document to fit your needs by
adjusting pieces of the document such as text, page layout and design
AutoCorrect Tool
works by automatically making corrections to your document;
such as correcting common capitalization, spelling, grammar and typing errors
AutoFormat Feature
automatically changes text entered into the correct forma
Automatic Spell Check
by placing a red squiggly line underneath them
on while you are typing; points out misspelled words
Grammar Check
proofreading tool which is automatically completed;
identifies grammar problems by placing a green squiggly line underneath them
