GOAL: To help you prepare for a project, and to earn some extra credit, complete the following:

Fold a piece of paper in half the long way
Then fold it into “fat” thirds, so you wind up with 6 fairly-equal sized boxes
Pick 2 items from EACH section below, for a total of 6.
Use one box for each item you have chosen to work on and write notes, ideas, or answers for each
item in a box.
5. Each correctly done box will earn you one point extra credit on your individual grade for this
project. That is, even though this is a group project, you cannot earn extra credit if you do not this
extra credit work. You cannot give extra credit points to your project partners.

7-1 -- What is Biodiversity?
a. How do the three types of biodiversity enhance your life?
b. Why is it hard to measure biodiversity? (p 203)
c. “Interview” a medical researcher, a farmer or chef, an ecotourist, and any organism –NOT a human,
though! Write a quote for each about how they think biodiversity benefits them
d. Choose and define (in your own words!) at least 2 vocabulary words
7-2 -- Why Is Global Biodiversity Decreasing?
a. Apply information about mass extinctions to develop a short slogan for a banner reminding others
of the importance of protecting biodiversity!
b. Describe, explain, and/or picture the four main threats to biodiversity: Habitat Loss, Pollution,
Overharvesting, and Climate Change
c. Choose and define (in your own words!) at least 2 vocabulary words
7-3 -- How Can We Protect and Preserve Biodiversity?
a. Why is it important for nations to cooperate to protect biodiversity?
b. Compare and contrast or list pros and cons of captive breeding and cloning
c. What about the Hotspots? Share something or create a drawing
d. Make a one panel cartoon relating to wildlife corridors
e. Choose and define (in your own words!) at least 2 vocabulary words
