& Resale Event
Sponsored by GFWC Oconomowoc Junior Woman’s Club
Thank you for taking part in the GFWC OJWC two-day consignment sale exclusively featuring items for
children & maternity wear. Funds raised are returned to the community through various GFWC OJWC
service programs.
Clean out your closets & basement - turn clothes, toys, books & other items that your children have
outgrown into cash! Save yourself the headache of holding a rummage sale & consign your items (you get
50% of the selling price) or donate your items to GFWC OJWC (100% of the profits go to GFWC OJWC &
you get a tax deduction).
Why would you hold a rummage sale when we will do most of the work for you? You don’t need to
advertise, set up display tables, or be present the day of the event. All the work will be done for you.
When:

What is & is not accepted for resale…
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) is a sweeping new law that impacts a broad spectrum of our
economy. CPSIA was effective February 10, 2009. In general, CPSIA is designed to keep our children save from
high levels of lead, & other hazards from everyday items. The main body of the law applies to manufactures &
required lead testing, but it does have an impact on resellers – even us consignors! As a result, GFWC OJWC will be
much stricter on what we will & will not accept for the sale.
Below is a table based on information from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, which addresses what will
& will not accept
Recalled Products
UNACCEPTABLE: It is Illegal to sell ANY recalled product
(for adults as well as children). Please check the CPSC Web
site (www.cpsc.gov) for dangerous recalled products
including cribs, play yards, strollers, high chairs, toys with
magnets, toys that are choking hazards, and other products.
Books – “ordinary” children’s titles e.g. paperbacks
and hardbacks
ACCEPTABLE, if printed after 1985
Cheap children’s metal jewelry
UNACCEPTABLE
Unpainted/untreated wood toys
ACCEPTABLE
Painted wooden or metal toys
UNACCEPTABLE
Toys with soft plastic that are made for infants
UNACCEPTABLE (these products are subject to the new
regulations, and will be acceptable in the future, if produced
after February 10, 2009)
Dyed or undyed children’s clothing made from
natural, untreated cotton, silk, wool, hemp, flax,
linen, and other untreated natural materials including
coral, amber, feathers, fur and leather
ACCEPTABLE
Clothes with rhinestones, metal or vinyl snaps,
zippers, closures or appliqués.
ACCEPTABLE, however, please use your best judgment on
these for choking hazards, etc. We will be doing the same
as we place these items for sale.
Surgical steel; precious metals such as gold (at least
10 karat) and sterling silver (at least 925/1000);
precious and semiprecious gemstones (excluding a
list of stones that are associated in nature with lead);
natural or cultured pearls
Toys that are easily breakable into small parts
including dolls and stuffed toys that have eyes,
noses or other small parts that are not securely
fastened
ACCEPTABLE
UNACCEPTABLE could present a choking hazard
The above information is not presented to “scare” or discourage you from consigning, but rather to inform you of this
new regulation & its impact on re-sellers. We want to make sure you are informed! Additional information on the law
can be found at http://www.cpsc.gov/ABOUT/Cpsia/cpsia.html
Acceptance of items is the sole discretion of GFWC OJWC. If your items are not of the preferred quality or
CPSIA guidelines, they will not be sold.
Until more is known about this new law, if you are unsure if your item meets the guidelines, do not bring it!
