Proclamation Of 1763
• Sets the Appalachian Mtns. As a temporary
boundary for the colonists.

Sugar Act
• Lowers the tax on molasses in hopes to stop
smuggling.
• Allows officers to search home for smuggled
goods – writs of assistance
QUIT
Quartering Act
• Forces colonists to house and feed British
soldiers
STAMPING
Stamp Act
• Places a tax on all printed materials.
DOWN
Declatory Act
• Declares that Parliament has supreme power
over the colonies.
TOWN
Townshend Acts
• Places a tax on all imported goods.
BECAUSE
Boston Massacre
• Violence erupts between colonists and Red
Coats in Boston.
• Leaving 5 colonists dead
– Crispus Attucks- first man to die for liberty
– Paul Revere uses propaganda to gain support for
the cause for independence.

Tea Act
• Place a tax on tea in the colonies.
• Removed tax on British tea.
TEA
Tea Party
• Dec. 16th - Sons of Liberty disguise themselves
as Mohawk’s and dump 342 chests on tea into
Boston Harbor.
• A form of protest against the Tea Act.
• “Hit Um Where It Hurts!”
IS
Intolerable Acts
• King George the III issued this act as a
punishment for the Tea Party.
– Closes Boston Harbor until colonists pay for all tea
lost in Tea Party.
• Prevented the arrival of food and supplies.
• Took away the right of citizens of Mass. To have town
meetings.

First Continental Congress
• First attempt of the colonies to organize and
gain some control back from the British.
• Political leaders from the colonies:
– John Adams, Patrick Henry, G W

• Shot Heard Round the World!
– First battles – official start to the American
Revolution

SUGAR:
Second Continental Congress
• Began governing the colonies!
– G. W. , Patrick Henry, John and Sam Adams
• Drafted the Olive Branch Petition

Resolutions Passed:
• Authorized the printing of money
• Set up a post office – L.L. Cool B. – postmaster
general
• Established committee of correspondence
with Natives and other countries.
• Created a Continental Army
– Elected G.W. as Leader
