Syllabus: United States History: 1877 – Present
Course Description:
In United States History: 1877 to present, students study the history of the
United States from 1877 to the present. Historical content focuses on the political,
economic, and social issues related to industrialization and urbanization, major
wars, domestic and foreign policies, and reform movements, including civil rights.
Students examine the impact of constitutional issues on American society, evaluate
the dynamic relationship of the three branches of the federal government, and
analyze efforts to expand the democratic process. Students use a variety of primary
and secondary source material to understand and interpret the past, including
multiple points of view and historical context.
All studies and content improve student’s historical interpretation and
prepares the student to excel on the STAAR/EOC testing.

4th Six Weeks:
Unit 8: World War II
Unit 9: Onset of The Cold War
Unit 10: The Civil Rights Movement
5th Six Weeks
Unit 11: New Frontiers and Familiar Enemies
Unit 12: 1970 – 1990
6th Six Weeks
Unit 13: 1990 – Present
Unit 14: The Ever Changing America

CLASS PREPARATION: You will need the following everyday.
#1. An open mind and a strong work ethic
#2. Binder/Folder/Spiral to keep all assignments and notes for SEMESTER
#3. Notebook Pater
#4 Pen or Pencil
Grading Policy:
Test, Project, and Daily Work are counted 50%. So, Test 50%/Daily Work 50%
Late Work Policy:
Social Studies department policy states that any work handed in late will lost 30
points, making a maximum grade a 70.
NOTEBOOKS:
You will be responsible for maintaining a notebook or binder throughout the year.
The purpose of creating these notebooks is to help you organize your material to
study for unit and semester tests. There are two options for organizing your
notebook. You can either organize it chronologically by unit, where all the material
for one unit is in one section. Or, you can organize it by category– such as Notes,
Daily Work, Quizzes, and Tests. I will periodically give you notebook quizzes and
tests, so it is your responsibility to keep your notebook up to date. This will allow
you to find materials quickly and do really well on test.

Classroom Rules:
1. Mac, pen or pencil, and paper are to be brought to class every day.
2. Students will respect the property, rights, and beliefs of others.
3. Be in class when the bell rings and never gather around the door before class
ends.
4. Once the bell rings, you have 3 minutes to answer a question that is stated on
the Board. Be ready to have an opinion or answer.
