Introduction
Are you looking for a cheap bookstore near or on campus to rent or buy textbooks? This manual
could help you with that. There are three bookstores that were compared with a single book to
compare prices in order for you to see the differences. Store hours, customer service, and
availability of the single book were also compared between the three bookstores.
Methods
Methods
We each visited one of the three most popular book stores on campus. We each had a set of
questions to ask the attendant at the book store. The questions were
1.
2.
3.
4.
What are your hours?
What schools do you primarily stock for?
What is the average availability of your books?
Do you have a return policy? If so, what is it?
Now after we had attained answers to the questions we also took note of the location of each
book store. How close is it to campus? How easy is it to get to? From there we were able to ask
whether or not there was anything that made the store unique in some way. We documented all
of this and compiled it here.

Voertman’s the College Store
Voertman’s the
College Store (or just Voertman’s) is a college bookstore located at 1314 West Hickory Street in
Denton, Texas. Voertman’s is open Monday – Thursday 8:30 A.M – 7:00 P.M, Friday 8:30 A.M.
– 5:30 P.M, Saturday 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M, and Sunday 11:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Besides
selling and renting books, Voertman’s also offers other products such as: apparel, collectibles,
and school supplies. Voertman’s book selection encompasses various course subjects that are
offered at the University of North Texas and also some of the courses at Texas Women’s College
and North Central Texas College.
Book availability is limited at Voertman’s due to its customer friendly prices. Students must
shop for books at Voertman’s prior to the first day of instruction, in order to avoid the issue of
availability.
Voertman’s offers a return policy with their books. A customer may receive a full refund by
returning their book before the fourteenth day from the first day of instructions. After the
fourteenth day, all book sales are final without an option for returning the book for a refund.
Voertman’s allows students to rent books for the length of a semester. In order to rent a book
from Voertman’s, a student must be at least 18 years old, possess valid picture identification, and
have a valid credit or debit card. Rental students are expected to return their book the Sunday
after finals week each semester. Failure to return a book will result in Voertman’s charging your
credit or debit card on file.
Voertman’s employees are excellent at assisting customers, regardless of their situation.

Texas. Campus Bookstore is open Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and has extended
hours during the beginning and ending of each semester. Campus Bookstore focuses mainly on
buying, selling, and renting books. Campus Bookstore offers books for the University of North
Texas, Texas Women’s College, and North Central Texas College.
Campus Bookstore usually has a good availability of books, because there are two separate
stores near campus. Students can obtain the book they are looking for at one of the store at a
good price. The entire front side of the cashier’s counter is dedicated to customer testimonies of
their savings at Campus Bookstore.
Campus Bookstore offers a return policy on their books. Customers are allowed to return their
books seven days from the day before the first day of instructions. This allows students to attend
their classes at least once to determine what books they will need. After the seventh day, all book
sales are final without an option to obtain a refund.
Campus Bookstore allows students to rent books for the duration of each semester. Customers

level of the Union on 1155 Union Circle in Denton, Texas. The UNT Bookstore is open Monday
– Thursday 7:45 A.M. – 7:00 P.M, Friday 7:45 A.M. – 5:00 P.M, Saturday 10:00 A.M. – 2:00
P.M., and it is closed on Sundays. UNT Bookstore is not only a place to buy or rent books, it is
also a campus store where you could buy apparel, school supplies, snacks as well as other items.
UNT Bookstore has a wide variety of books and is organized by the acronym of the subject in
which the book would be under. If you cannot find the book you’re interested, the easily
accessible information desk is there for you to ask questions or possibly order a specific book
you are looking for, but could not find.
Book availability is reasonable depending on the time at which you try and get your book. If
there happens to be no books left in which you are trying to find, just ask someone at the desk
and they could order the book for you and they will call you once it comes in.
A full refund will be given for textbooks (excluding Final Sale items) returned prior to your
campus specific refund deadline. Materials purchased after the campus specific deadline (but
before the final week of class) must be returned within 2 business days of purchase. Materials
purchased during the last week of classes or final exams are not returnable/refundable.
If you are a first time renter of UNT Bookstore books, then the cashiers will gladly set you up
with an account to allow you to rent books from the Bookstore. The UNT Bookstore allows
students to rent books for the full length of a semester. In order to rent the books from the UNT

Conclusions
After comparing the prices of one individual text book across the three different book stores, you
can see that the price variance is not terribly high. Voertman’s was the cheapest over all but it
was only cheapest by at most $1 and at the least $.26. We discovered that renting was easily the
best deal you could get if you have a small amount of money, since by removing the option to
resell your books you get them $20 cheaper than the used price. Over the long term, the best
value is to buy used since it’s 60% of the new price but with the option of selling it back.

Recommendation
The real value in shopping around comes from the availability of the books at the store you are
going to. Saving a few dollars here and there don’t mean anything if you can’t get the book you
need. We found that the best availability came from The Campus Bookstore. You can avoid
longer lines by shopping at either of the two locations and since they both have nearly identical
stocks of text books. Stores like Voertman’s and the UNT Book store fall short because they
have a single location which can cause quite amount of stress simply by waiting an hour and a
half for your books.
