Systems For Organisations
Below are some topics that are concerned with the use of Information Systems in
business; in this exercise you need to choose any three topics of the eleven below –
then write between 250 words and 350 words on each of the three topics in relation
to an organisation with which you are familiar or one or more that you have studies
among the literature (books, journals, internet).
If you feel that you are not in a position to observe an organisational information
system then you might choose to cite examples from books, academic publications or
the internet: e.g. case studies.
Questions to consider – for example – in relation to this task are:
 What levels of management exist and over how many departments?
 Is the management structure subject to change?
 How do the IT systems manage organisational data/information?
 How are the Information Systems integrated? (If they are)
There are many other issues that relate to information systems in orgaisations that you
might want to include instead.
Here are the eleven subheadings that you might choose three from:
1. The structure of organisations
2. Models of Information Systems and organisational departments
3. Strategies for business and Information Systems
4. Modelling Information Systems concepts
5. Information Systems applications
6. Selection and acquisition of Information Systems
7. Building Information Systems
8. Managing the operation of Information Systems
9. Information Systems security
10. Information Technology legality, e.g. regulation and compliance
11. Interacting with computers, e.g. user interface, training
Marks awarded based on relevance, quality, and creativeness.
