Purpose of Job
To be responsible for the management of clinical services in Birmingham. To
work closely with the CRI Regional Lead Nurse for Clinical Practice providing
leadership and direction within the specified remit. To provide support and
strategically develop the services within the role’s scope
To work with stakeholders in promoting CRI clinical services.
To provide key people management support to the Services Manager as well
as the management of nursing staff in the service
To ensure that all clinical process and procedures are in line with CRI policy
and that all staff are aware of key policies relating to clinical safety.
To be involved in clinical audit of the service under the direction of the CRI
Regional Lead Nurse for Clinical Practice.
Areas of Responsibility
Management Accountability
Reports to the Services Manager who will provide operational direct line management and supervision.
All clinical supervision will be provided by the CRI Regional Lead Nurse for Clinical Practice
Significant Working Relationships
The Nurse Lead will be expected to support all clinical services staff employed in Birmingham, both via
direct and delegated line management structures.
Working closely with the Services Manager and be part of the senior management team which will
include the Services Manager and the Medical Clinical lead.
Working closely with the Human Resources Manager you will ensure the appropriate people and change
management skills, knowledge and capabilities are in place within line management structures and
team/projects.
Location will be flexible depending on allocated areas of responsibility. However, there is an expectation
that you will allocate sufficient time at each of the delivery locations to ensure high standards of service
delivery and effective line management capability across all teams.
Key Accountabilities:

To provide overall support and direction on clinical service development with some key strategic
developments for the Service.

To ensure that all clinical services are delivered to a high standard in line with CRI policies,
procedures and best practice

Take part and conduct clinical audits as required on services.under the direction of the Clinical
Coordinator.

To manage the clinical aspects of implementations of new clinical developments within the service

Work in partnership with stakeholders and promote CRI clinical service to clinical commissioners
and health and wellbeing boards alongside the Services Manager

To ensure all programmes are adequately staffed so that contractual requirements may be met at all
times

To effectively manage and develop all nursing staff and participate in the core training programme
as and when required

To undertake regular performance reviews and identify areas of risk

To attend, organise and service (as required) relevant clinical advisory groups and committees and
partnership meetings, to ensure appropriate representation of services

To provide line management, supervision and leadership to all direct reports

To assist in the development and implementation of clinical operational policies so that services are
effectively delivered, controlled, monitored and reported

Ensure that all legislative requirements are explained to employees in particular the legislation
governing the clinical and social care/community field.

Ensure CRI’s corporate clinical strategy and identity are reflected by all area services, both within
and outside the organisation

Spend time in other regions and localities in order to teach, develop and share specialist knowledge
with other colleagues, projects and teams

Undertake any other appropriate tasks that may be allocated by the Clinical Services Director from
time to time, for the benefit of services in particular geographical area as well as CRI in general
The post-holder will be required to work flexibly across operational sites as required and work flexibly
within an agreed number of hours to maintain the most appropriate level of service provision. This may
include some evening and weekend working.

Person Specification
Senior Nurse
The following are elements of the post which are deemed to be the essential or desirable qualities,
experience and skills necessary to carry out the duties of the post.
Essential
Education and Experience

Registered with the NMC/RCN. Non medical prescribing training will be an advantage.

2 years experience working in the health/social care field or the ability to demonstrate sufficient
experience in similar fields

Clinical Services, Criminal Justice System and/or social care field experience

Experience of working and managing people/teams in the clinical services and substance
misuse, social care fields

Demonstrable experience of working with people from a range of social, cultural and ethnic
backgrounds

Demonstrable experience and commitment to supporting and working within diversity awareness
environments

Relevant qualification in the social care, clinical services or other industry/role linked degree
qualification, or equivalent
Abilities (demonstrable)

Evidence of ability to manage change and entrepreneurial flair

Ability to manage in a facilitative and coaching style

Ability to implement and develop effective monitoring mechanisms

Ability to evaluate professional development and progress

Ability to liaise and work in partnership with a wide range of professionals and agencies


Awareness of and ability to work within clinical legislation in relation to service users
