Purpose: The main purpose of this paper is to provide a clear understanding of why 90% of
companies fail to successfully realize their growth plans and what to do about it.
Question: The key question answered in this paper will be “How can I as a business owner improve
my chances of successfully growing my company?”
Description: In this session, participants will clearly understand why 90% of organizations fail to
successfully realize their growth plans. By utilizing the power of the 80/20 Principle and other
effective organizational practices, companies will not only learn how to identify obstacles to
growth, they will gain insight and direction on what to do about these obstacles. The net result for
all attendees will be the ability to create a solid foundational plan to over come obstacles to
growth.
Objectives:

Knowledge (Defines what participants should learn).
o Why most Companies fail to grow.
o Growth Goal Setting.
o How the application of the “80/20” principle can be used to focus on critical and
non-critical growth activities.
o What to consider when selecting the best markets for growth.
o What to consider when determining the best way to win in those markets.
o What to consider when determining whether you have the proper capacity to grow.
o What to consider when developing you growth plan.


o Prepare Growth Goals.
o Use of the “80/20” principle.
o Select best markets and customer segments.
o Evaluate current capacity to grow.
o Prepare a start plan towards growth.
Speaker Biography: J. Kelly Newcomb has over 25 years of experience in marketing, branding and
business consulting. He is currently principle / owner of several companies including i.e.Brand, an
internal / external branding company along with Newcomb Consulting Group, an organizational
development firm specializing in helping family-owned and privately held businesses reach their
growth goals.
