Objectives:
After completing this course students must be able to:
• Describe the generic characteristics of DSSs.
• Appreciate the difference between a decision support system and other systems.
• Recognize various special classes of DSSs
• Have developed your own decision support system
• Be prepared for independent, critical study and assessment of publications about DSSs
Course Description:
This course is designed to foster a comprehensive understanding of decision support system
(DSS) concepts and possibilities, impart practical DSS development skills, and point out the
important role these systems play in business today. Such an understanding is valuable for
prospective application developers, managers of business computing technology, and
decision makers. Coverage includes Decision making process, modeling and analysis of
developing DSS. Artificial intelligence concepts including intelligent systems, case-based
reasoning, expert systems, rule based systems, machine learning methods, data mining,
GDSS. Each student will work on a project to develop a decision support system. Familiarity
with business problems, computers are assumed.

Successful completion of this course should lead to the following learning
outcomes :
1. Knowledge and Understanding:
Be able to understand the importance of decisions in the work and the life. Be able to use
DSS Software Tools. Understand how to Evaluating the Success/Failure of Decision
Support Systems
2. Intellectual Skills:
Discuss the advantages/disadvantages of different Types of decision support systems.
Analyze practical cases from the life for different problems (technical, management).
Design models, solutions and alternative choices reports decision makers.
3. Transferable Skills:
Work in a group in order to analyze, design; create a solutions for a technical problems
in one report. Work with other groups in order to make different decisions and GDSS.

Notes:
Attendance Lectures attendance is mandatory. Students are allowed maximally of 15%
absentia of the total module hours.
Assignments are required to be solved independently to assist students in gaining
programming skills and helping them to prepare to the practical exam. Any given
assignment must be worked out by the student himself.

according to the university rules
