Summer Reading for AP & Dual-Credit Social Studies Classes 2015

Humble ISD encourages high school students who are enrolled in Pre-AP, Advanced
Placement, and Dual Credit social studies courses to read over the summer to build a
historical foundation and content base from which students will draw to engage in
collegiate level studies throughout the course.
Summer Reading Goals
Humble ISD recognizes the importance of developing life-long reading habits in its students.
Primary Objectives of the HISD Summer Reading Program for AP & Dual-Credit Social Studies
 Reading for Exposure to Quality Writing and Content
 Reading to Promote Independent Reading, Inquiry, and Scholarship
 Reading to Develop and Maintain Necessary Critical Thinking, Reading and Writing Skills

Assessment
Students are expected to read the assigned
book(s) determined by the campus instructor.
(See pages 2 & 3 of this handout)
Check campus/instructor website of materials
such as pre-reading activities, reading guides,
response questions and supplemental support.
During the first semester of school, students
may be given an assignment or assessment
directly related to their summer reading. The
type of assessment and grade will be
determined at the campus level.
