Who Won?
 The Battle of Antietam
is a tactically
inconclusive victory for
both sides, they both
suffered high losses
while the Confederacy
loses less troops, the
Union gains significant
strategic ground in
Maryland.
Significance
 The battle of Antietam
was the first significant
battle of the Civil War to
take place on Northern
Soil.
 It was after this battle
that the Emancipation
Proclamation was
issued by President
Lincoln.
